In a bunch of my earlier posts, I’ve chatted about all sorts of PlayStation stuff. You can find the links to those at the bottom of this post.

Now, let’s dive into the skinny PlayStations — and guess what? A slimmer PS5 might just be around the corner, and I’m gonna talk about that here.

What is the “slim” version of PlayStation consoles?

Sony, the company behind these awesome gaming consoles, has previously made what they call the “slim” version of their consoles.

Now, you might be wondering, what’s so “slim” about it? Is it on a diet? Nah, not quite. The “slim” version is basically a sleeker, more compact version of the original PlayStation console. Think of it like a fancy car getting a cool makeover — the same power, just in a smaller and more stylish package.

The whole idea behind the slim version is to make the console more portable and space-friendly. So, if you’re tight on space or you want to take your gaming adventures on the go (maybe to a friend’s house or a gaming event), the slim version is like your trusty sidekick. It’s easier to carry around and won’t take up as much room in your entertainment center.

Now, you might be wondering if there’s any catch. Well, here’s the scoop: the slim version usually retains most of the features and performance of the original PlayStation console.

You’ll still get to enjoy all those mind-blowing games, stunning graphics, and immersive experiences that PlayStation is known for. It’s like downsizing without compromising the good stuff.

But, as with any upgrade, there might be a few trade-offs. Because the slim version is more compact, some older models might have slightly less storage space or ports compared to the original. But don’t fret! Manufacturers usually try to balance things out, and newer slim versions might even improve on certain aspects while keeping things slim and trim.

In a nutshell, the “slim” version of PlayStation consoles is like the cool cousin of the original — a bit smaller, easier to carry around, and designed to fit into your life, whether you’re a hardcore gamer or just someone who enjoys a good gaming session now and then. So, if you’re all about that gaming goodness but want a little less bulk, the slim version might just be your jam.

A PlayStation 5 slim?

So, you’ve been thinking about snagging a PS5, but you’re scratching your head wondering where that massive white monolith will even fit in your meticulously arranged space. Well, guess what? Your stars might just be aligning.

Now, hold on to your game controllers, because there’s been quite the buzz about a fresh twist on the PS5 scene — a potential PS5 makeover or a slick PS5 Pro. Sony seems to be taking a page out of the classic playbook, the PS2 era to be precise.

Remember how the PS2 shed some weight midway through its life cycle and morphed into the legendary PS2 Slim? Well, brace yourself, because a comparably PS5 Slim might just be making its entrance.

Now, here’s the kicker. Instead of your usual rumor mill or insider scoops, the teaser comes from an unexpected source — a down-under electronics whiz, Better Way Electronics, based in Australia.

And what does their footage reveal? The upcoming console is being held nonchalantly in a single hand, a feat that’d be as rare as a unicorn sighting with the standard beefy PS5.

Speaking of looks, this pint-sized powerhouse is bringing its own style game to the table. Most eye-catching is the pronounced crease right down the middle, neatly dividing the console into two halves.

My best guess? It’s probably the much-speculated detachable disk drive. And oh, let’s not forget the cherry on top — a fresh USB-C port gracing the front, a handy bonus over the run-of-the-mill PS5.

Now, before you go wild with fantasies of souped-up hardware, let’s reel it in a bit. Given the shrinkage factor, significant hardware upgrades might just be a distant dream. But hey, who knows? Maybe a PS5 Pro will swoop in later to steal the show.

As for the grand unveiling of the PS5 Slim, it’s the classic case of “neither confirmed nor denied.” But if this leak is the real McCoy, a debut might just be looming on the horizon — we’re talking as early as this year.

Oh, and here’s an interesting tidbit: Sony’s been busy offloading its PS5 inventory recently. Could this be a sign that they’re making room for the sleek new model? Oh, and don’t think Microsoft is sitting this one out — they’re primed to drop their own version of a PlayStation Slim this year.

Final Words

Now, if my gut’s right, the PS5 Slim could very well shove its chunkier ancestor off center stage and become the reigning standard console.

But here’s the catch — if you’re already riding the PS5 wave, this trimmer version might not be quite the head-turner to warrant a wallet-busting upgrade.
