We Can Become Free of Our Conditioning — It’s Easy
We all have been conditioned, in one way or the other

On our paths of self-realization, it is common for many of us to reach a stage where we become aware of how conditioned our psyche is.
Those of us who have had a difficult childhood, or a tumulous life, may realize that our conditioning runs quite deep.
So much in fact, that it affects almost every aspect of our lives.
Upon this realization, a thought may arise suggesting that we can't become free of this conditioning due to its magnitude.
If we were to then identify with this thought, which in itself is arising because of the conditioning, we may end up falling into a pattern of fear and hopelessness.
We may even start to raise questions on the necessity of the continuation of our practices of self-awareness and mindfulness.
We all have been conditioned by the situations and circumstances of our lives in one way or the other.
However, neither the conditioning in itself nor its degree is the cause of the internal suffering that we experience in our daily lives.
The real cause of this internal suffering is the thoughts that we experience because of this conditioning of our psyche.
Our belief in these thoughts hardens the conditioning in our psyche. This in turn produces more thoughts that match with the frequency of our conditioning.
In the lack of awareness of this subconscious process, we get trapped in the circle of cause and effect, where the effect is also the cause.

The first step towards becoming free of our conditioning is to stop identifying with it.
Through this dis-identification, we need to become aware of the fact that our conditioning is not who we are.
In each moment we need to become aware of our psyche when it chooses to express our conditioning in the form of thoughts and emotions in our mind and body.
The practice of present moment awareness strengthened through daily meditation plays a key role here.
Through this awareness, we will be able to catch the thoughts and not get drawn into the emotions we are experiencing due to the conditioning of our psyche.
We then notice ourselves as the witness, as the observer of these thoughts and emotions instead of identifying with them.
In that instant of our noticing, of our becoming aware of our true self, we are free from the burden of our conditioning.
If we then can string these moments of awareness together instead of being lost in identification with our thoughts, the conditioning starts to lose its grip on our psyche, and it slowly starts to fade away.
In this way, we experience life in its purest form, just as it is, without the mental noise of our conditioned psyche.
