We Call Our Reader “The Monster”

We use that well-earned name in conversations. Hopefully, nobody overhears those conversations.

People named computers that occupied the space of a whole house in the ’50s & ’60s. Your cell phone has more power. Most people don’t name their computer devices now. For us, we refer to them by function, except for one.

We call the Libre 2 diabetes sensor reader “The Monster” - for good reason! It throws tantrums when it doesn’t know where you are, wakes us up at 3:10 AM, sometimes 2 or 3 times per night, and occasionally wakes us with a false alarm when it can’t find the sensor.

Unfortunately, those wake-up calls are usually correct. They alert us when blood sugar levels drop. We can treat them before they become dangerous. Before The Monster, we didn’t see a symptom until the number reached a horribly low level. We had to call the EMTs twice last year.

So, although irritating, we will keep it.
