We all are a little bit LOST and that is ALRIGHT.
Life is just based on keep trying and keep failing.
So today I woke up and I started to think about my whole professional life. I started wondering if I would find the correct path for me — and if I would ever find that DREAM JOB everyone is pursuing and everyone is trying to get.
It seems our life is not fullfiled without it — but that is completely unreal. I found this amazing post of Evan Wildstein talking about “In Defense of Not Figuring Out Your Career in Your 20s” .
I felt so relieved someone could openly talk about this. Let’s be honest: You do not have to have everything sorted out at your 20s — not even at your 30s.
I am 24 — and I still do not have anything figured out. I do not know what I want to do for the rest of my life yet, I still do not know what is my dream job — or even what does it remotely look like. And this is completely alright.
But what I know for sure is that I do not want to live for working. I want to find a work that suits me, interests me and most important, allows me to live while enjoying my professional path.
During these last 3 years I have been working for 4 different companies. I have had the chance to work in a startup, in a big corporation, for the goverment and in academia. I have been working and studying at the same time for some time. And do you know what? Every single time there were some parts that were extremely good and some others were just not that good. And again, that is completely fine.
All jobs will always have their pros and cons, and no matter what you do, you will always experience this feeling that something is off — that there is still some lacking piece to be found. We are humans — and as human beings we have been evolved to always want more and to want it better.
This is why now is the moment to try, to seize all opportunities that appear ahead us and to really understand ourselves. Now is the time to try different fields, works and professional paths. Now is the time to risk. I am acting consequentely — or at least trying to do so.
With every single new experience, I learnt, I grew and I got a few new friends to share my life with. Am I going to find my dream job at some point? I hope so. However, I am starting to think that there is no such thing as a dream job for the rest of our lifes. We, as humans, keep changing and evolving. Our interests — even the professionals — do so as well.
Take the time to know what you like. Dare to try and fail. Dare to be lost. We should better enjoy our path and just let our professonal life grow and improve with us — and just have no rush to have everything sorted out. Life’s magic is discovering it slowly. Dare to live and everything else will eventually shape itself.
Let me know all your experiences in the comments. I am all ears — or eyes in this case ;)
