Warrior
An Autobiography, A Poem
I am a warrior. I did not ever want to be, I do not really want to be — it is reluctant.
All of my life I have had to fight, for what is right and just and fair and good; it is painful.
I cannot remain silent when people are harmed, I cannot remain silent when people are suffering, I cannot remain silent when my family is hurting, I am hurt by the battle.
Yesterday, pounding on the door, demands, threats, old abuse coming, knocking, pushing, unreasonable, I, in my migraine hat, my bones weary, I fight on, I refuse, I say no.
Love says no. Love does not allow pain. Love stands in the way of harm and injustice. Love is the only thing that gets it and gets in.
Love guided me through, friends, texts, hands, holding, while I was trapped in a space, bombarded, yet not cowering, love guided me through, my daughter, protecting her, comforting her, comforting me, my little girl inside -
she is a warrior from birth, day one, her nature is to survive, not tolerate, but with gentle peace, but with gentle strength, her nature is to be a shield, and a sword, with heart, with words, I am a warrior.
