Giants

A Poem

for Ansel Allen

Photo by Dan Meyers on Unsplash

We all climb up onto the shoulders of giants every single day,

my friend Ansel, a giant, is on giants my friend Ashwini, a giant, is on giants

global giants, local giants, secret giants, known giants, fee fi fo fum giants, but smarter, but wiser, but calmer,

we climb up, we look around, shake a bit, try to use the giant’s hand to do our thing, to figure it out, but

it doesn’t work that way, we climb up but it’s up to us once we are there to use our own hands, to hold our own pens, to wizard our own words.

We stand on their shoulders, somehow, oddly, and we expect them not to stumble, and they usually don’t,

some are real, some are ghosts we float then, on ghost giants, too

giants upon giants, grateful upon grateful,

there’s nothing else like it, — just look at the view.
