How to add royalty free images to your Medium article

Founded in 2013 as a humble Tumblr blog, Unsplash has grown into an industry-leading visual community. It’s become a source of inspiration for everyone from award-winning writers like Deepak Chopra to industry-titans like Apple, and millions of creators worldwide.
One of the most important partnerships Unsplash has made is its early integration with Medium. Medium writers can use any of Unsplash’s 1,000,000+ royalty free images in their articles!

How to Add Unsplash Images to Medium Stories
Step 1.
Click on any blank space in a Medium draft.
Step 2.
Click the + icon to access the Medium toolbar editor.

Step 3.
Click the magnifying glass icon.

Step 4.
Type in a search term for photos you want on Unsplash and press enter.


Step 5.
Click the photo and Unsplash inserts the selected photo in your Medium story with the caption pre-formatted to attribute the creator.

Notes About Using Photos From Unsplash on Medium
- While the images on Unsplash are generally high quality, they are not all large enough to be your article’s featured image. Your image needs to be at least 1060 px wide for all four placement options to show up.
- Unsplash is fantastic because it is free, but it is also heavily used. If you need new, less commonly used images check out this list of other free stock photo sites.
