Upon Seeing What Gets Selected (Back to the Poetry Mines)

The work goes in every day the muse the voice the words the work goes out and then we wait and we see what gets selected for the things the thing the prestige the glitter up there and we throw up our hands for a moment sometimes what is there, gilded, gleaming, on high is worthy and sometimes we need a drink and a nap to recover from being looked over, passed over, rejected for the thing that got there instead of whatever our thing was we have an intrinsic, subjective, real, so real, understanding of what is good, we think, we feel but sometimes it just is not what is wanted for the big day, in the big way so we stay down here, it’s dark down here, in the poetry mines high ho high ho the gems are here, the gems are here they are always here, shining in small places, but they find us
