Unlocking Medium’s $100 Barrier: My Winning Strategy
Discover how I’m on track to surpass $100 in earnings on Medium this month — finally!
If you’re struggling here, I get it! Every month, I’ve asked: Will I break the $100 barrier this month?
It looks like I might hit a first-for-me goal on Medium: earning more than $100 in one month.
For many of you, that goal was probably achieved early on in your Medium venture. Congratulations!! Please leave your tips in the comments so others can learn.
This month, I am on track (yay), so I’ll break down what I’m doing differently (below).
Here’s what my published posts look like for this month as of 2/16/2024:
- 10/16 days, an article went live.
- Twice, 2 articles went live on the same day. I’d like to pace my submissions so that doesn’t happen.
- 6 days, no article went live (although I wrote and submitted).
My February articles have earned $30.23 but my overall earnings to date (including articles from earlier months) total $47.28.

Writing every day. Let’s face it, the algorithm loves consistency. We can’t get around this if we want to be seen in readers’ feeds. I have not published every single day, but I’ve written every day, so I have articles in the pipeline. Since I can’t control when publications post my articles, I aim to plan and schedule my articles so something is published every day.
Writing on a variety of topics but also developing my niche. My niche is simple living and decluttering. I added 4 articles to my own pub, The Decluttered Soul because I am building up my brand and showcasing my other offerings. I feel like this is a good balance for now. More to come…
Writing for other pubs but also building my own. I write a lot for Koinonia because the editors are great and it’s a platform that speaks to faith and Christianity. You can see, however, that with articles like 4 Bible Verses for Decluttering Your Home and Interruptions or Invitations, I am combining the Christian message with my message of intentional and clutter-free living.
Being responsive to commenters. I’ve always done this so I don’ think it’s the one thing that is moving the needle, but I do believe it’s a best practice.
Tracking data and analyzing it. All these years on Medium and I’ve never looked at the data. What? As a data-driven customer success manager, I know how to analyze data and use it to tell a story or chart trends. Why wasn’t I applying this skill to my writing goals?
Data beats emotions. — Sean Rad
I try to follow 3 new writers a day. I like to be authentic about this, so I read articles, check out profiles, and respond thoughtfully to start a relationship. This takes time, but I believe it’s worth the investment.
Taking advice from those who have found success. I admit that I can be stubborn, think I know everything, and get defensive when my way doesn’t work. But I’ve been praying about humility and opening my mind to see how I can improve on this platform.
Working on my abundance mindset. Last night I read an article by Scott Stockdale. He broke down his strategy for interacting with others to build relationships and opportunities. After detailing and illustrating his advice, he reminds us:
But here’s the thing: you’ve got to have an abundance mindset for this to work, and this ain’t easy when you’re struggling to pay bills. — Scott Stockdale
I’m also reading Louise Hay’s book, You Can Heal Your Life, and implementing the power of conscious thinking and speaking, along with affirmations that help me overcome limited thinking.
Since February is a short month, I’m going to have to ramp up somewhere to hit my goal. 🎯 I’ll post an update in early March. I’m excited to see how February settles. $100 is just the beginning, but if I can jump that hurdle, then my momentum and confidence will grow.
