Summary

Herald, Charity, and Lucian, a dhampir, encounter a trapped treasure chamber door, which Herald unwittingly activates, resulting in him being engulfed by lightning.

Abstract

The narrative titled "Unforeseen" is part of a fantasy drabble series called "Searching for Charity №20 — It’s a trap …" where the characters Herald, Charity, and Lucian confront a seemingly impassable pair of doors leading to a treasure chamber. Despite Lucian's lack of knowledge about the doors, Herald's attempt to force them open results in a trap being sprung, surrounding him with lightning. This cliffhanger continues the adventurous and perilous journey of the group, with each chapter building upon the last. The story is a response to JF Danskin's "A Drabble Challenge for Authors," which has inspired the author to craft a series of 100-word stories, of which this is the fifty-eighth installment.

  • The author values reader engagement, encouraging them to help the protagonist by reading more of their work and subscribing to their content.
  • The use of a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter indicates the author's interest in creating suspense and encouraging readers to continue with the series.
  • The inclusion of a photograph by Michał Mancewicz suggests the author appreciates visual aids to complement the narrative and set the scene for the readers.

“These are even bigger than the first.”

Suspiciously, Herald looked at the massive pair of doors.

“How do we get into the treasure chamber?” he barked at Lucian, the recently freed dhampir.

“I’m a prisoner, not the janitor.”

“Great, playboy vamp is ….”

“… a dhampir!”

“I actually wanted to say useless,” Herald replied.

Charity sighed.

“Give it a push.”

“That I can do!” Herald said, prancing.

Herald flexed his muscles and gave the doors a strong push. Lucian watched in shock as lightning shot from the doors and engulfed Herald.

“That’s what I thought,” Charity said, “It’s a trap.”
