Unfinished…
What is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others?
“Writers write from empathy.” ~ Nikki Giovanni
We discuss and contemplate good reasons why now
is the time and season for a change of mind and soul
for all of our people to not only recognize but to behold.
Our struggle is real. Think it’s fabricated? Oh, please…
What will it take to be rid of this political disease?
Civil rights have never been adjusted — protests bring more sorrow
Enough of this begging! Together we can reach a brighter tomorrow.
We can rule ourselves in righteousness and wisdom
not having to answer to appease others’ imposed conformism.
We all know the planned solution to set us free
is to annihilate the majority of us from sea to shining sea.
This dilemma is discussed daily and mentioned every night
searching for solutions without a fight.
Did you know a new law passed to imprison Grand Master Jay
Yeah, trumped-up charges — years in jail he might stay
If we were truly the ones they had to fear
none of them would even be here
in the land of the free and home of the brave
before they came here we were free-living out our days
and years in brotherhood and righteousness, not disgrace.
Shit that’s going on today would never have come into play.
Brothers, sisters, family, friends, and I
are only a few but soon we will multiply.
Our people will remember who we were in the days of old
and remember again that we were the ones with the gold,
lands, thrones, and royalties. No bodies stolen, murdered, and sold.
And the atrocities are yet going on long
So we stop and ask ourselves, just where did We go wrong?
That our Most High would allow us to become
homeless, poor, enslaved, murdered, and unsung?
Stay tuned! You see, I write not just a poem
this is yet an unfinished tome
that our youths will add to
a wealth of history we all must pursue
knowledge galore, uncovered truths
hearts full of wisdom beating strong,
elevating anthems and multitudes of unwritten songs…
“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
