PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Unearthing the Frog-God
He’s been guarding the garden all along!

Part of the joy of having my back garden ‘recovered’ was finding the Frog-God. He was discovered under a lot of clinging, rambling green stuff, still standing sentry on his pile of rocks, (loosely known as a rockery), still guarding the harmony of the garden.
It’s nice to know he’s been there all that time keeping an eye on things.

The honeysuckle has appreciated its unfettered freedom and now covers most of the trellis around the garden. Fabulous! We originally planted several types with different flowering seasons in order to cover a longer blooming period.

I had previously put in a lot of herbaceous plants and they’re the ones which have suffered — the only ones left are those in pots — oh, and the blue geranium which grows in the lawn.
I’m thinking I’ll go for shrubs this time, rather than softer plants.

Out the front of the house, however, my California Tree Poppy is showing lots of promise — and many buds. It grows about eight feet high and is quite a startling sight in the middle of a city.

The photos above are a taste of what the buds in the pic above them will become. I love this plant — it never fails to brighten the year.

A neighbour had a visitor. Much to the visitor’s embarrassment, while ‘hellos’ were being exchanged with his host, his dog jumped out of the car, ran into the neighbour’s house, through the hall, through the breakfast-room, through the kitchen, out of the back door and then he leapt into their pond. Apparently, it was as if he already knew the pond was there.
Seems reasonable to me. Why wouldn’t he want to cool off after a long car journey?
I imagined the furor and the humans running around yelling and all the time doggo was probably thinking:
‘WHY can’t I play with them??? They’re my pals …’
The Photo-A-Day Challenge is a great thing to do. It’s really interesting to see other people’s lives, from all around the world, illustrated through their pics.
Dennett started it last year and what a fab idea that was! Thank you, Dennett!
