Twin Flames as a Catalyst

A helpful perspective that could heal you.

I have a friend who has known me for a long time and who met his twin flame before I met mine. He met her before I even believed in twin flames. It was an obsession for him, and years later, he is still sifting through the after-effects.

He swings between the idea that she is incredibly significant in his life and the idea that her importance is minuscule and it is just an unhealthy infatuation. He likes to say, “She was a catalyst.” I’ve joked with him many times that he is in denial of the fact that she’s his twin flame. I think that he’s trying to explain it away so it’s not as painful. That’s because she wasn’t very nice to him, and like many twin flames, she has no obvious intention of ever being with him. He has to deal with that. Most of us have to deal with that.

Why would the universe introduce us to someone who completely knocks us off our feet, only to take this person away? This is the question that haunts us.

But there is something to be said for the idea that twin flames are catalysts. I won’t say they’re “just catalysts” because this diminishes the incredible significance of a catalyst in our lives. Catalysts are big.

Twin flames are definitely catalysts because they change everything. If you are wondering whether you’ve met your twin flame, ask yourself if this person has totally turned your world upside down. They’ll often make you yearn to be a better person, understand yourself, heal, and love yourself. The related side effects can include wanting to change your job, find better friendships, or move to a new place.

The reason my friend likes to focus on the fact that this person is a catalyst is because it helps him find the lessons and the gratitude in the whole situation. I think this is the correct mindset to have. When we choose to give in to obsession and chasing, we lose sight of the real gift that the universe is giving us. And we wallow in the suffering. Instead, we should try to transcend the suffering.

This twin flame experience is your once-in-a-lifetime chance to elevate yourself and heal past trauma. This person triggers you for a reason. You are facing yourself. Don’t waste this chance by chasing them and trying to figure out how to be “in union” with them. Figure out how to be in union with yourself.

So, maybe all of us should trade in the term “twin flame” — which sounds intense — for the term “catalyst” because it will help us focus on things we can learn from the experience. Things we can work with. Things we can be grateful for. I’m all for it.
