Truth exists (Part VII)
What you seek in life lays beyond your greatest fear. Truth is the vehicle that will help you cross that scary road to reach the ultimate goal.
In part III, we covered how fear becomes powerful when reacting to it—then introduced how truth can grow when we respond to them as well. You now have the assignment to feed yourself some truths and receive your armor to face that monster in the way.
We hear countless stories of folks who "went for it" to discover something special. Again, we are referring to actual accomplishments that are tangible and practical.
People who started businesses with no money and support, but made it work.
People who chased their careers by going to a new city and making it.
People who didn't believe in their talent till they went for an audience and shined.
People who made a minor change by leaving a group of people who did not impact them.
People who decided to quit their job because it was draining them.
The list of people above can go on forever. You are very familiar with them, and you might know one or two of them personally. Movies, documentaries, and books are written about them. The majority of them are just like you, and some were in the worst shape compared to you now.
If you remember in school when you learned about writing or giving a speech, the advice from the teacher was to make your work personal; the truth is that we identify with many stories with a personal touch. Sometimes we wish we were some of those people we read about regularly.
Now, if we were to interview most people in our favorite stories about their journey, we would see a pattern. Most, if not all, were scared to make the move that jumpstarted their calling. And this is what was mentioned at the beginning of the article. What you seek in life lays behind your greatest fear.
What happens if you never face your fear?
A void will grow, but so will the truths. At that moment, the statement "it's never too late to start" will ring around you like an alarm clock that keeps going after the snooze button. There are tons of stories of people who conquered that statement.
Great examples below:
- 90-year-old woman makes headlines as oldest graduate in BYU history (The Daily Universe, 2021)
- At 50 years old, Leo Goodwin started GEICO insurance (Kazan Today, 2018)
- 45-year-old Tina Turner moved us with her music. You might have heard "What's Love Got to do" hit song.
- At age 40, Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity.
Until your last breath, you have the opportunity to face your fears. The further you delay, the tougher the challenge will appear, but that does not make it impossible.
The misconception of facing your fear?
Doubt, a child of fear, will combat the truths in the hope of turning you around away from the ultimate goal. Anything that comes in questioning your progress is the doubt creeping in. At this point, you are operating within truth, and so your armor is in place. The loudest voice becomes yours.
There are a ton of external factors for sure, but your biggest challenge is YOU. If you have ever played video games or are familiar with the storyline, the last stage of all games includes a tough boss, the biggest obstacle in your way, and the most difficult character. In life, this is you.
With the right people around, you will get the support needed to move you forward. But when those doubts start popping up, that's the big boss fighting back from the inside. There is no one way to defeat yourself; you know this very well from earlier when we went over stories of people who "went for it."
One strategy you can reference to understand the big boss is in one of my previous articles, "Get Over Yourself " (GOY).

The biggest misconception is that life is sunshine and rainbows after conquering your biggest challenge. Fear never goes away; its hold on you is no more. Think of a child afraid to jump in a pool; once they get over that fear, they will jump in all sorts of ways. The fear is there but no longer effective, and truths now tell them it's just water.
Now you know what to aim for in life and what it requires to get there and what will be in the way.
We will explore further in part 8.
