Apps I use on a daily basis
If its not the first time reading my medium articles you already know how much I love apps and the way they can simplify our daily activities. I love apps with great functionality but ofcourse apps with amazing design too.
So in this article I am going to reveal and briefly talk about apps that I normally use on a daily basis. The lists of apps will include iOS and Mac apps. Most of the apps I am about to talk about are available on both Android and Windows but I just thought I would put this out there just incase one of the apps wont be.
The list will not include any social media apps. We all know that sometimes they can be so hard to avoid especially in this modern day and age. Anyways, brace yourself as we dive into the apps in 3, 2, 1……
1. Things 3

Personally, things 3 is my favourite to-do list app among all the other to-do list apps out there . Before getting things 3 for all my apple devices I had been using Todoist, it is a very powerful and beautiful looking app but since I was introduced to things 3 I just loved it way more as it fit my workflow absolutely perfectly. It took time for me to shift to things 3 as I was mentally adjusting to the fact that I had to pay almost $60 to have it on my Mac and iPhone but the good thing is that once you pay for it you wont ever need to worry about a to-list app anymore as it will be yours forever. On top of all this the app just looks gorgeous and has very amazing features. If you are looking for a to-do list app with collaboration features then Todoist is definitely for you but if you are looking for a very powerful personal task management app then Things 3 is your best option believe me.
Before we move to the next app I know some of you might be wondering why haven’t I looked into other to-do list apps. Believe me I have. From TickTick, Omnifocus, Nirvana all the way to Microsoft To do, Google Tasks and Anydo. I have tried all of them before and I just humbly ended up settling down for Things 3.
Anyways, Ill leave it to you to decide.
2. YNAB
I have personally been struggling with my finances since I was in high school. I used to make absolutely ridiculous purchases and immediately after a while i would sit down and think “Was this really worth it?” and I end up having that feeling of guilt. Well, you might think after the first guilt feeling that it might have ended there but the reality is it didn’t. As a tech guy, I found myself purchasing loads of gadgets. This always brought a sense of satisfaction just as other people would get while purchasing luxury clothings, perfume, or art. it git to the point I decided all this had to stop and so I started looking for budgeting apps. I went through a lot of apps but I finally decided to go for YNAB.
YNAB is a budgeting app that let's you assign every single penny into categories. This categories are what you will use to guide yourself through the month by keeping track of what you have spent and what you have available left. I have been using it for almost two months now and I can say it is absolutely amazing.
Pricing: The app comes at a bit of a high price. But the good news is that you will be able to save enough to pay for the subscription monthly or even annualy. This is something that YNAB themselves say on their website. The app will set you back $14.99 a mont or $98.99 a year. Before you decide if you want to stick with the app you can try it out for 34 days free of charge. Dont get me wrong the fact that it is a budgeting app and costs a lot just doesn't add up to me. The company justifies this by saying that you will save enough to be able to pay for it but then am I even supposed to paying this much for an app at the first place regardless of what amount I save?
Anyways it has helped me and I hope it does help you too.
3. Revolut

Revolut is a digital bank. It does what any other bank does but just spices it up way more. This app offers the ability to directly invest in stocks and crypto straight from its app as well as get a wide variety of features with it such as the ability to book a stay when travelling, insurance for your pets, travel insurance, a sub account for your little one (Revolut Junior) and many more. I use this app on a daily basis because of its simple user interface and beautiful looks.
If you want to know more about the app here is an article where I explain more about it.
4. Spark

I have been struggling to find a good mail app and after searching and searching I finally landed on Spark and I have never looked back ever since. If you are on Mac I guess you can relate with the limited mail app options you have. I mean dont get me wrong there is a bunch of them on the app store but trust me when I say that some of them are even funny to use as their are absolutely non-functional.
Spark is a mail app that offers a great design and great functionality. It offers some of the features that not most mail apps offer. This may not bother most of you but I love seeing the sender’s icon when looking at my mail rather than a dull design such as the native mail app that Apple offers (No hard feelings though I still love you Apple but come on you could have done better with that Maill app of yours). This is something that Spark offers and it is one of the reasons I love its design. It also has the ability to attach your signature on emails which I also find amazing. In general Spark’s app is amazing on both mobile and laptop.
5. Lightyear

When it come to investing Lightyear is my app of choice. It depends from where you are reading this article from but currently Lightyear is a stock investing app startup that is based in the United Kingdom this means you can only access it if you are a United Kingdom resident. Its plan is to expand its services to all European countries and who knows maybe they might stretch to the United States based on how good they perform.
Ever since I joined Lightyear I have seen massive improvements and expecting to see more. I dont know why but this is among the startups that I just believe in no matter what. I mean I guess the main reason would be how good the app looks, how smooth and slick the user interface is, and its futuristic design.
If you are in the United Kingdom I encourage you to try it out.
Here is an article I wrote that dives into more details about Lightyear. Feel free to check it out for more information
6. Beatstar

I was not going to forget Beatstar. Beatstar is a mobile game that gives you access to multiple well-known tracks both old and latest. It is a game where you would have to accurately tap some square blocks moving down from the top to the bottom of the screen. You have to time and tap the blocks at the right moment to be able to score the highest points and the most exciting part is that if your taps are accurate then you will be going by the beat which makes it super enjoyable
I normally play this game a lot when I am in the bus, waiting for a long software download to be completed on my laptop or even after having a long day and I'm just laying on bed and want to listen to some music. I tend to decide to go for beatstar rather than spotify at times just because it brings a certain level of excitement being able to interact with the music you are listening to. But of course the music is pre selected and you will have to hit some high scores to unlock some great music. So good luck with that
7. Everlog

Everlog is a journaling app that I discovered after not accepting to pay for DayOne and deciding to look for alternatives. The major reason why I decided to not got for Day One is the high price tag it has as well as the not really great design they have to offer.
Everlog doesn’t have a much features as DayOne does but it is a very promising app and so far I am happy with what it already offers, although of course having some improvements will make me even more happier.
To read more about Everlog here is an article I wrote about it
8. RemNote

RemNote is a note taking app that works in the form of bullet outlines. I absolutely love this app and since I am currently not working with a team I even decided to switch from Notion to RemNote.
Among the few things I like about RemNote is the ability to link your notes to each other as well as flashcards to help you recall anything you might need to stick into your head hence building a super strong knowledge base. I have been using the app on my Mac for almost 2 months now. I use RemNote exactly the way I would use Notion minus the databases of course as it doesn't offer this at the moment. RemNote already has a mobile app for Android but for Apple users we may need to wait for a bit as the app is still in development.
If you would like to understand more about RemNote and why I shifted to it from Notion here is an article I wrote about this
