To Niche or Not to Niche, that is the Medium Question
I’m starting a 4 week experiment to answer the age-old new-age question of which performs better on Medium now: general or niche writing
Unlike some other writers on Medium that write about Medium I’m still not quite convinced that creators need to niche down in order to be successful.
That being said, I do love experimenting and being proven wrong!
I’ll be spending the next week narrowing down to one niche that I will continue writing about thrice a week — and give that 4 weeks of consistency.
At the same time, I’m going to continue with my 5 day writing challenges each week, Medium articles, drop shipping, picture-strolls, and personal stories that I feel like sharing.
Rules of engagement
- Each week (beginning November 11), I’ll post 3 articles in the yet-to-be-determined niche
- At the same time, I’ll post at least 3 articles from 3 different topics in the same weeks on Medium
- I will include one drawing as a measure of short articles (I’m curious how much poets and comics are affected)
- I won’t reuse any material or articles from my Medium history
- I’ll post results every Monday from the previous week (you’ll get to see my my amazingly low views — excited yet?!)
- Results will include: Views, reads, fans, average reading time
- I won’t include money earned (except at the end of the 4 weeks) as that can be influenced by the topics themselves, I’m trying to measure actual engagement first
- I may or may not have a beer while writing
- I will probably have a beer while writing
Place your bets now, this should be fun to see the results! Oh yea, and to enjoy the writing journey etc etc etc
‘Rant’ over.

Thanks for reading! Have a wonderful day and check out some of my other stuff here.
