WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE

Three Antelopes High up in the Alps

November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “3”

Searching for food in the white.

“The chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is a species of goat-antelope native to mountains in Europe, from west to east.” — Wikipedia on chamois

This past weekend we went to the Alps together with my parents and friends of ours. We got lucky as it snowed just two days before we arrived. I say lucky because I’m a winter lover. I’m born on the 27th of December and surely love the cold. As long as there’s snow around.

Well, there was plenty of snow to be seen, felt, and heard from Friday evening until Sunday late afternoon. I was in my happy place. Throwing snowballs at everyone and photographing everything around me, I was rather distracted from the strenuous hike.

My dad has always been good at spotting wildlife. He got the eyes of an eagle we used to say. And this time again, on the slope opposite from us he spotted the chamois. At first just one, then two and three. Eventually, we lost count. They were spread out a lot across the mountain. All walking slowly in one direction.

Looking for the last bit of food.

Thank you Mary Chang for this fun writing prompt and the Six-Word Photo Story Challenge publication.
