WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE
Looking Across the Border in West Africa
November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “3”
Three butterflies photobombing the breathtaking view.
I was busy going through my folder of photographs from my trip to Ghana in 2014 when I stumbled onto this picture. Currently, I am working on the ebook version of my report on the trip and I’m looking for images I can add.
This picture stayed on my screen for a while since I was taking a sip of tea and was contemplating including this shot in the ebook. That was when I noticed the dots. At first, it looked like some dust or dirt on the lens. But then I looked closer.
I recognized two butterflies flying through the shot just on the line of the horizon right of my arm. They were photo bombing my picture. I can’t believe it. And the longer I stared at the image the more details popped out and I also recognized the butterfly left of my feet.
So there they are. Three butterflies in front of the mountains reaching into Togo, West Africa. I was working in Ghana for a few months when I climbed the highest mountain in the country (just about 800m tall). A man told me I was looking across the border. Those mountains in the back are part of Togo already.
I’ve had this image for so long and it took me years to find these butterflies. I’m glad I did spot them now. What a special shot!
This image will never be the same anymore.
