Thor’s Return: Chris Hemsworth Sets One Firm Rule

Chris Hemsworth sets a key requirement to play Thor again in the MCU.

So, in some of my past stories, I’ve chatted about all kinds of Marvel stuff. If you’re interested, I’ll drop the links to those at the end of this post.

But today, I wanna dive into the awesome Thor movies and spill the beans on Hemsworth’s single, super-important condition to don the Thor mantle again. Let’s get into it!

About the Thor movies

Alright, so Thor is this Nordic god dude, the son of Odin and the crown prince of Asgard. He’s got the looks, the muscles, and that killer hair that makes you want to run your fingers through it. Played by Chris Hemsworth, Thor is a total powerhouse and a fan favorite.

In the first Thor movie, he’s this arrogant hotshot god who thinks he’s the bee’s knees. But then Odin gets mad and sends him to Earth as punishment. Talk about a cosmic time-out! So, our hero ends up in a small town in New Mexico, where he tries to find his way back home while kicking some bad guy butt. Oh, and he falls for Jane Foster, a super-smart astrophysicist. Love is in the air!

In “Thor: The Dark World,” things get even crazier. There’s this ancient dark elf dude named Malekith who wants to bring darkness upon the Nine Realms. Thor has to team up with his mischievous brother Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) to save the day. Loki’s always flipping between being good and evil, and it keeps us on our toes.

But hold onto your hammers because “Thor: Ragnarok” is an absolute riot! They took a different direction with this one, making it more of a cosmic buddy comedy. Thor ends up on this crazy gladiator planet and has to fight his buddy Hulk in a gladiator match. It’s like a superhero WWE smackdown! Plus, we meet Valkyrie, a badass warrior lady who adds some serious girl power to the mix.

In “Avengers: Infinity War,” our hero teams up with the rest of the gang to take on the big bad Thanos. It’s an all-out battle to stop him from collecting all the Infinity Stones and wrecking the universe. But, man, that movie is a rollercoaster of emotions, and let’s just say it doesn’t end too well for Thor. We shed some tears for our Asgardian hero.

Finally, in “Avengers: Endgame,” Thor is dealing with some serious post-traumatic stress. He’s gone through a lot and has let himself go a bit, gaining a few extra pounds and becoming a total bro.

But hey, he still packs a mean punch. The Avengers go on a time-traveling adventure to fix the mess caused by Thanos, and it’s a total mind-bender. Thor gets to reconnect with his mom and eventually finds his mojo again. It’s an epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga.

What is Hemsworth’s one rule?

So, according to Chris Hemsworth himself, there’s a chance we’ll see Thor again in the MCU. But here’s the catch: he’s got one condition.

Hemsworth has been playing the Norse god since way back in 2011 when Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” hit the screens. Fast forward twelve years, and he’s rocked the role in a total of nine MCU movies and even voiced Thor in a couple of episodes of “What If…?” Season 1. His latest outing as Thor was in Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and it seems like Hemsworth thinks it might be his swan song.

The thing is, Hemsworth has always been pretty honest about his reservations when it comes to reprising the role. When asked about his future as the hammer-wielding god, he said:

“I have no idea. I’ve said it before, it all depends on the type of story. It has to be something unique. What I don’t want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience.

But if there is excitement for it, I am always willing to return. If there is a new story, it has to be something very special. I’m sure there’s something exciting to tell, so we’ll have to wait and see. You have to wait to find it.”

So, basically, he’s open to coming back, but only if there’s a fresh and kick-ass story to tell.

I mean, we can’t blame Hemsworth for wanting a change. He’s been swinging that hammer for over a decade, and it’s only natural to crave something different. Sure, Thor has gone through some transformations along the way, both physically and emotionally, but it’s a character that doesn’t leave much room for an actor to spread their wings and try new things.

Final Words

As for what’s next for the Thor franchise, who knows? It’s a mystery.

It seems like Hemsworth might take a step back from Thor for a while, if not for good.

With the whole multiverse craziness going on in the MCU, there’s still a chance we’ll see Thor in a different form.
