On Writing

This Is Why You Should Be Excited That The Top Writers Are Leaving

If you are a writer you will write — not whine.

There are too many stories causing panic amongst new writers because top writers have decided to leave the platform. It’s ridiculous. But most importantly — it’s pathetic.

Yes, I heard the news: Matt Lillywhite has left the platform — so what? It’s his prerogative. I wish him all the best and I will keep reading his stories wherever he decides to publish them.

Let me explain something I am not writing on this platform because of the top writers. I am also not writing here so I can quit my full-time job as Tim Denning did nor am I expecting to become the next Zulie Rane.

I am who I am — different and so is my journey.

Top writers are leaving the platform because they are not earning as much as they used to. So they are looking for other channels that would generate them more income.

Perhaps some top writers are leaving because writing is not their passion.

To leave is okay.

Let me remind you that these writers have been here for over 3–4 years, they’ve earned an astonishing amount of money, they have other writing gigs and perhaps it's the time for them to move on.

Why should their decision bring bad news to the rest of us?

Quite on the opposite — it’s good news for the aspiring writers.

There are empty spaces at the top to be filled with new fresh blood. New, different, unique content is needed. Top writers followers will be looking for new writers to follow and engage with — and it can be you!

Do you realize that you can actually now become the “new ”Matt Lillywhite?

Isn’t that awesome?

But there is a catch…Nobody guarantees you that it would be easy.

Well let me tell you the brutal truth — it was never easy. Nobody promised you that you will become rich by writing online within a year or two.

That’s what you expected!

We should be grateful that we have a platform that allows us to make money writing, helps us connect with fellow minded people and helps us improve our writing.

If you seriously love writing then you will understand that — you will not whine.

We should not be angry. Those who are scared because few (or all) top writers are leaving should leave together with them!

This platform doesn’t need that kind of writer, because those aren’t writers.

Who has ever told you to become a writer if you want a stable job?!

How many writers died pennilessly? How many of them were published only after their death? How many of them were killed because of what they published?

Be grateful. Stop making drama because top writers are leaving the platform. Stop panicking because the algorithm is changing.

Change is inevitable. Change is needed. Change is good.

It's not the end of the world if and when the platform dies. Real writers, who write not because they want to earn big bucks but because writing is their purpose will find other channels to publish their stories and will always find the audience and ultimately will earn “some ”money.

Nobody promised you richness in this life.

It was your egoistic expectations — egoism killed the writer.

So to those who are left here — know that good times are coming. The platform is changing, and the “old ”writers are leaving so the “new ”ones can find their audiences.

This is the best time to publish and write every single day.

If you are here just for the season you will not succeed. No part-time writer has ever written a bestselling novel. The platform is getting rid of seasonal writers — it doesn’t need them.

The platform needs a consistent, reliable and dedicated bunch of people who will keep showing every day even when they are not getting paid. Because these people just can’t imagine life without writing and they have lots to say. So they will be heard eventually.

To be honest, I’ve lost respect for all the writers that are whining about these recent changes, and I will be unfollowing them. I’ve even read an article from a writer that I used to respect. This writer alleges that the platform cant just give us money and then take it away.

Grow up. Of course, it can and it should. It is the platforms prerogative.

This whining reminds me of the victim mentality. I am certain Maxwell Jordan would agree.

Have these whiny writers built this platform for millions of writers and readers?

Of course not.

They are having a free ride, doing allegedly what they love the most and getting paid for that. If you think you can get better views from your own website then go and build it — or pay someone to build it, help you promote it and write.

But please don’t whine here and point fingers at people who have actually enabled you to make money.

Has the world really forgotten what's it like to be grateful?

In my humble opinion, I am glad the platform is changing — it doesn't need greedy, angry, frustrated, “bitchy ”writers.

Nobody needs that.

Look, you are either a writer or you are not.

If you are, you will keep on writing anywhere — online, offline, on this or that platform and you will be grateful. This platform pays you every month on time — there are people in certain countries who aren’t paid on time and work in hospitals 14 hours a day.

Get a grip, will you!?

Oh, $1000 is not good enough for you?

Well then go to the corporate world or just publish a self-help book, publish articles on your own website or any other platform. Earn more if you think you can and deserve more.

But please don’t whine it won’t bring you views or reads. It won’t bring you respect either. Haven’t you heard the algorithm is changing — and it doesn’t want you anymore!

To my other fellow writers — keep writing. The change is coming and it's up to you wherever it would be a good one or a bad one.

I have decided — it's going to be pretty awesome!
