Be grateful!
How 1,000 Strangers Helped Me Find My Purpose Again
In this world — there are no strangers.

Everything in life happens for a reason. Strangers enter our lives with a purpose. Once a stranger saved me from being homeless in Tokyo.
I will be always grateful to him.
Recently I stumbled upon a profound article written by Bernie’s Daughter where she speaks of her achievements in life.
Not so long ago, I measured achievements by my bank statements, work titles, cities visited or degrees earned — just like the society would like us to. This toxic belief has made me sick.
I was motivated for the wrong reasons because I didn’t value myself enough. I had this toxic belief that I was not good enough. I still often struggle with this but I decided to change it.
This year I’ve experienced a lot of losses.
I’ve lost my childhood friend. I’ve lost my best friend. I’ve lost my freedom.
I’ve also managed somehow to lose $35,000.
Most importantly I’ve lost myself along the way. Somehow nothing excited me as much as it did before. I could not find a reason to be motivated to do certain things.
One day, I’ve decided that I don’t like the person that I have suddenly become and I was upset with myself. Perhaps a Serbian inside me suddenly awoke and reminded me of who I truly am.
I am a warrior.
My Serbian “inat” helped me to push through the difficulties and find the will to keep fighting. It spoke to me:
“Keep fighting until you find the reasons to be motivated again!”
You might ask what “inat” meant?
Inat is like a lion’s roar against the dying of the light. It’s fighting against all odds. It’s the opposite of what we wish life to be.
It’s a defiance of “reality,” which one knows is finite and still believes that it must and will be different.
I started writing again.
My writing is far from perfect. English is not my native language. I am far from writing engaging stories as Tim Denning does.
But I keep trying — that's my achievement.
Do you know what is said to newcomers when they arrive in rehab?
“Keep coming back…”
As long as you keep coming back, you will not pick up that first drink.
This phrase works wonders in all aspects of life.
Since I started writing again I’ve gained 1000 supporters and I am grateful to every one of them. It is them who inspire me to write every single day and keep improving.
Since I started writing again I don’t feel lost anymore — 1000 strangers have shown me the way forward.
I know that everything in life happens for a reason. I know that in this world — there are no strangers. We are all brothers and sisters.
