Wild Switzerland
This idyllic waterfall makes me confuse Switzerland with Iceland
Engstligen falls near Adelboden, Canton of Bern
After a sleep in the town of Adelboden, around 2 hs by public transportation from the country’s de facto capital Bern, we headed towards the double-jump waterfall walking along a river coming down from it.
This first part of the hike goes up very gently, so you do it effortlessly in one hour. Indeed you can even get there by car.
Before you get to the lower fall, you are still in the forest and get a chance to see the two parts of the waterfall in a single scene:

Walking just a little bit more, you are too close so you only get to see the lower fall:
After a break and getting ready for the steep hike that comes next, we go for it. Oh and if you aren’t ready for this you can still take a ride up with the local lift!
The hike up is very demanding, but fortunately not too long. Suddenly the steep path takes a break in a small open space where you get a still-far-but-clear view of the upper fall:
The spectacle is just a few more minutes away:
Here I’m standing right by this massive and powerful waterfall:
You can keep going up, to get different views of this upper waterfall, from grass fields decorated with flowers, even orchids:
Yes, there‘s plenty of wild orchids in Switzerland!
Iceland feeling
I can’t help thinking about Iceland when I see these photographs of the upper waterfall as I post them here. No trees, only flat bushes, and the only different that flowers are here bigger and more interesting.
