These Types of Books Scare Me…(KDP Blog Jan 10, 2024)
Ever since embarking on my KDP journey over four and a half years ago, my focus has primarily been on simple books. These include notebooks, journals, log books, etc., where the bulk of the pages are identical.
While I’ve been successful with these, I now wish to expand my skills and explore different book types. Yet, the thought of their complexity is daunting. I’m eager to try my hand at colouring and activity books, but the prospect of publishing them is intimidating. Today, while conducting niche research, I felt a surge of anxiety.
Questions swirled in my mind: “How can I create a book with each page being unique when I’ve never done this before?”, “Where can I find someone with the expertise to create these books?”, “What will be the cost, and what if they don’t sell after such an investment?”
These concerns weighed on me today. The simpler path would be to continue publishing basic books, but I realise that to advance my skills and reach the next level, I must embrace the challenge of producing more complex books, which offer greater rewards in this business.
Is fear holding you back?
I believe “fear” often holds people back from taking bold steps. I’ve experienced this myself. But each time I’ve overcome fear and taken that leap, I’ve been thankful, irrespective of the outcome.
I understand that many newcomers share these fears, to the extent that some never publish their first book. If this resonates with you, know that you’re not alone. Even experienced authors like myself confront these fears.
What did I do today in my KDP business?
As I mentioned, I did niche research. Additionally, I watched some KDP-related content on YouTube. Later, I’ll be managing my ad campaigns, making necessary adjustments. Also, I plan to listen to a business-related audiobook while exercising.
This will round off my business activities for the day.
