There are Only 2 Ways to Live Your Life
Keep your eyes, ears, and mind open to life’s exciting possibilities.
It was Albert Einstein that noted: There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
He was right. The world is full of amazing and exciting possibilities.
You need only keep your eyes, ears, and mind open to them.
Here are some ways to ensure you don’t miss out on those potential experiences.
1. Begin your Day with a Clearly Focused Mind
One way to do this is by meditating. Be open to whatever the world offers you in each new day. You cannot bestow your blessings until you recognize the fun of discovering new things about yourself and about life.
2. Get out of Your Comfort Zone
Our ability or inability to step out of our comfort zone will determine how fast and how well we grow.
You will miss out on a lot of the world’s possibilities if you refuse to try new things. Until someone put skates on Eric Heiden no one knew he could skate.
Representing the US, Heiden won 5 gold medals in speed skating at the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid.
He was deemed the most successful athlete at the Games.
You will never know what untapped talents you could have enjoyed and shared with the rest of the world if you don’t ever sample new activities.
The truth of the matter about comfort zones is not only do we feel comfortable there, but we also fear going anywhere else.
This fear is what restricts us and holds us back.
Life is all about trying out new things and taking risks. Here are a few things you can start doing today to help you get out of your comfort zone:
- Ask yourself what you could be doing that is outside your comfort zone. Make a list.
- Take a look at that list of discomforts and examine each one. What are your fears? Could it be that you fear failing or falling? Are you scared of being ridiculed or laughed at? Do you fear that there will be negative outcomes?
What are they? Or is it the stress involved that you worry about?
3. Expand your comfort zone.
A way to deal with the fear of stepping out of your comfort zone is to expand that comfort zone. You designed it subconsciously and now it’s time to consciously redesign it.
You can tackle all discomforts at the same time or one at a time.
For example, if you fear public speaking, widen your comfort zone to include speaking in small groups (such as your local Toastmaster’s organization) and then medium sized groups and finally in larger groups.
It may not be comfortable the first few times but you have the power to redefine discomfort. Take hold of it.
4. Be willing to face whatever comes your way. It’s a gradual process.
You may not succeed the very first time but keep trying.
