The World — Total Discrepancy

A Poem

Photo by Steven Diaz on Unsplash

Amidst the towering buildings, Shimmering lights in white, blue, purple and yellow, Limousines glide through the streets, As the crippled souls walk and drive, In this city, who is who? A question left unanswered, unknown.

The blaring of the ambulance, The cries of the injured and dying, Numbers being announced, Five people gone, twenty injured, But who are they? A question left unanswered, unknown.

Fighter planes soar through the sky, The news channels blaring out the numbers, Two thousand and two bodies so far, But who were they? A question left unanswered, unknown.

They were killed because they were different, Their countries and beliefs not aligned, In this world, in this city, Total discrepancy, Who knows who am I? A question left unanswered, unknown.

My take on this poem:

This absurdity-based poem explores the chaotic nature of modern society, with its tall buildings, busy streets, and senseless violence. The poem challenges the reader to question their own identity and place in this world while highlighting the inherent absurdity of a world where we often don’t know who we truly are or who those around us are. Through its use of vivid imagery and powerful language, the poem encourages us to strive for greater empathy and understanding and to work towards a world where everyone can find their place and live without fear of senseless violence and hatred.

I love Lisa Precious / Smiley Blue’s connection to nature. Here is one: “The Breath-taking Wonders of Nature: Everything I Fell In Love With”
