Summary

The provided web content outlines the fourth installment of an interactive "choose your own" adventure story titled "The Hero of Pendown," featuring a protagonist encountering a strange portal in a wishing well with a kleptomaniac alien creature.

Abstract

The narrative unfolds as the protagonist navigates a corn maze in Pendown, following a slime trail and discovering their axe near a wishing well. The well serves as a portal from which a bald, green-blue alien emerges, demanding assistance. The alien reveals its nature as a collector and expresses frustration at the portal's unfulfilled promise. The story is part of a series and serves as a response to a creative challenge, adhering to specific constraints and fitting the format of a drabble. Readers are invited to engage with the story by making choices that influence the outcome and are also encouraged to participate in writing similar collaborative stories.

  • The story integrates various elements such as a musical sound, a sticky slime trail, and distorted wishes from a wishing well, suggesting an imaginative blend of fantasy and adventure.
  • The alien's kleptomaniac behavior and the inverted portal add a twist to the traditional wishing well concept, reflecting the author's originality.
  • By participating in the "Hodgepodge Challenge #3" and writing a drabble, the author demonstrates a commitment to literary constraints and community engagement.
  • The invitation to readers to join in writing collaborative stories shows a desire to foster a community of writers and readers interested in interactive fiction.

Deep in the corn maze, you hear a trumpet sound. At your feet is… eww! A slime trail.

Following it, you see your axe against a wishing well.

And now, a voice: “Help me down!”

Down?

You grab the axe, then peer inside. A bald green-blue creature is hanging from an upside-down tree, head just above the surface. The tree is below the water; the creature is set to fall up.

“Help!”

The voice now sounds angry.

“What are you?”

It laughs, its eyeballs spinning. “A collector. This portal promised a world.”

It snatches your axe, snarls, then clambers out.
