The Wild Things: A Great Band That’s Really Something!
A look at their newest music & a review of their debut album, ‘You’re Really Something’

I write an article here in Plethora of Pop each month about new songs I like. Back in early July, I was searching in the ‘New Releases’ section of Spotify for new music to listen to and I came across a song called “Lay On, Take Off.”
It was credited to The Wild Things/Pete Townshend. While I’d never heard of The Wild Things until then, I’d known and been a big fan of Pete Townshend for most of my life. I was very curious and gave the song a listen.
Here’s a clip of it from Spotify:
Although it doesn’t sound much like a Pete Townshend song, or a song by his legendary band The Who, I wasn’t disappointed a single bit in it.
Quite the opposite. I loved it right away!
I played “Lay On, Take Off” over and over and over that first day I heard it, and then I included it in my article about new songs I was digging in July.
I kept listening to the song and kept loving it more and more. I then headed to The Wild Things’ official YouTube channel to see what else I could listen to and watch by them. One of the first things I saw was this great short video of singer Sydney Rae White talking a bit about “Lay On, Take Off.”
I then found a music video for “Only Attraction,” which is another new song the band released in 2022.
I loved this song right away too!
Like “Lay On, Lay Off,” this song features the band being accompanied by Pete Townshend. Both songs will be on the band’s upcoming album Afterglow, which was co-produced by Pete Townshend and band member Cam White.
Afterglow will be the band’s second album. Since it’s not out yet, I decided to check out the band’s debut album, You’re Really Something, which was released in 2018.
Here it is on Spotify:
I think You’re Really Something is a VERY solid album that shows what a great rock band The Wild Things are. Here are some of my favorite songs from it:
Loaded Gun
Great guitar, great bass, great drum, great lead vocals, and great lyrics. It’s the first song on You’re Really Something and I think it was a perfect choice to start the album with.
It rocks!
I Think You Can Do Better
The music in this one is fantastic. I also love the lyrics — especially the line about taking what makes you scream and drowning it until it makes you clean.
Sydney Rae White sings this song with a lot of passion and she sounds awesome on it.
You’re Really Something
My favorite song on the album seems to change from day to day, but as of right now, this one holds that title. The music in it is exceptional. I love the great, steady beat throughout the song. On a very related note, if you like running on treadmills or riding exercise bikes, this song is fantastic to have on while doing those things!
I also love the above music video for “You’re Really Something.” Sydney Rae White, who is often called “Syds,” gives an especially great performance in it. In addition to being a singer, Syds is also a very accomplished actress. She shows here that she’s a very good one.
F.I.A. (Explicit Lyrics)
Another great rocker here!
As some of you may know, I never use curse words in my articles. Therefore, I won’t type out loud what the “F” stands for in the title of this song. I think you can figure it the f*ck out, though.
Where Flowers Grow
This nice, mellow song closes out the album and it does so perfectly. I especially love the guitar playing in it.
All in all, I think You’re Really Something by The Wild Things is an exceptional album. Out of 5 possible stars, I give it…drumroll, please…4 stars!

On Twitter and elsewhere, I’ve seen the hashtag #TheBestKeptSecretInRockMusic applied to The Wild Things. While I think that’s currently true, I don’t think it’s going to remain true. They’re too good to stay a secret for very much longer.
One last thing…
The Wild Things recently started a weekly series on their YouTube channel called The Singles Club. Each week, they perform one song. The first one they did was this great version of James Taylor’s “Copperline.”
Be sure to subscribe to their YouTube Channel for upcoming videos in that series — and for their own great music, of course.
