10 New Songs I Dig: Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Journey, The Wild Things, & More

New music I’m enjoying in early Summer 2022

Here, in no order of preference, are 10 new songs I’ve recently discovered and have been enjoying listening to:

1. Lay On, Take Off — The Wild Things, Pete Townshend

I had never heard of this band until just a few days ago when I saw this song listed among New Releases on Spotify. I’m a big fan of Pete Townshend, so I was intrigued when I saw his name attached to it.

It turns out that he produced the song and plays guitar on it. It doesn’t sound anything like a typical song by The Who or Pete as a solo artist — but that’s totally okay. It’s a great pop/rock song!

“Lay On, Take Off” is from the band’s upcoming album Afterglow, which will also contain this:

Bonus New Song from The Wild Things!

2. Break My Soul — Beyonce

Beyonce falls into the large category of artists who I normally don’t go out of my way to listen to — but I end up enjoying most of their songs when I hear them.

This new one is a fun song. I think it’s got a great beat.

3. Carolina — Taylor Swift

Although I’m unfamiliar with the movie that this song comes from, Where The Crawdads Sing, I’m a fan of Taylor Swift, so I quickly gave the song a listen when it came out.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about it at first, but it quickly grew on me and I like it a lot now.

4. Don’t You Worry — Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, and David Guetta

It’s quite fitting, I think, that this song was released at the beginning of the summer season.

It totally has a “summer vibe” to it. It’s a fun, uplifting song that is very enjoyable to listen to!

5. Up The Mountain — Regina Spektor

Writer Terry Barr recently included a song by Regina Spektor in the first article of his great new Rate A Record series on Medium. Up until then, Regina Spektor was an artist I’d heard of, but I’d never actually heard. I liked the song that Terry featured in the article, so I told myself to check out other music by her.

In a very nice coincidence, Regina Spektor shortly afterward released a new album called Home, before and after. I listened to it a few days ago and instantly liked most of the songs on it.

The above song, “Up The Mountain,” initially struck me as being a little unusual and sort of strange, but it very quickly grew on me and now it’s one of my favorites from the album. I included the official lyric video for it so that everyone can check out the quite interesting (and pretty cool) lyrics to it.

Bonus New Song from Regina Spektor!

6. These Are The Days — Inhaler

This is another band I’d never heard of until I saw their song listed among New Releases on Spotify. The singer’s voice reminds me a little bit of the voice of Brandon Flowers from The Killers, yet the singer from Inhaler definitely has his own unique sound.

“These Are The Days” is a catchy, fun song and I’m looking forward to exploring more music from this band in the not-too-distant future.

7. Fall — Three Ton

Three Ton is a new rock trio based out of the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. This is their first release and I think it’s a great, rocking song. Check it out, fellow lovers of hard rock!

8. Don’t Give Up On Us — Journey

“Don’t Give Up On Us” is from Journey’s upcoming album Freedom. The song has the classic Journey sound, but it also sounds very new. The band recently added some new members to their lineup, so that may be part of the reason why this has sort of a “classic, but fresh” sound to it.

I love “Don’t Give Up On Us” and it’s made me extra excited to hear the Freedom album when it comes out later this month.

9. Too Good For Giving Up — Liam Gallagher

In spite of me being a music junkie, I’m not overly familiar with the music of Liam Gallagher’s famous former band Oasis. Yes, I know their big hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger” and maybe one or two others, but that’s about it.

I’ve always intended to explore more by Oasis, but I haven’t yet. After hearing the great new song “Too Good For Giving Up” by Liam Gallagher, I also now want to explore more of his solo music.

In fact, I’ve already started…

Bonus New Song from Liam Gallagher!

10. Can’t Help Falling In Love — Kacey Musgraves

The great Kacey Musgraves covering one of my favorite songs by the great Elvis Presley?

Yes, please!

Here’s my complete Spotify playlist of the 10 featured songs. Enjoy!
