New Music I Dig: Dave, Sammy, Ozzy, Dolly, Ringo, The 1975, and More

20 new songs I’m enjoying in August 2022

I’ve got a lot of great new songs to share here today.

So, in the immortal words of the legendary Eddie Wilson, “Let’s get on with the music!”

1. Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway — David Lee Roth

This is Diamond Dave’s tribute to the early days of Van Halen. As a big fan of theirs, I like this a lot.

And speaking of Van Halen…

2. Crazy Times — Sammy Hagar and the Circle

A great rocking single from former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar and his band the Circle, which contains Michael Anthony, the original bassist for Van Halen.

3. Bless You — Liam Gallagher

This great ballad is a remake of a John Lennon song from 1974, which I didn’t know existed until just a few minutes ago. I kind of prefer Liam’s version, but here’s John’s original if you want to check it out.

4. Sweet — Jon Batiste, Pentatonix, and Diane Warren

A great, fun upbeat-sounding song. I’m not much of dancer, but this one makes me want to dance.

5. Old Time Religion — Doctor John and Willie Nelson

I’m not very familiar with the music of Doctor John, but I think he and Willie Nelson sound great together on this one.

6. Degradation Rules — Ozzy Osbourne (Featuring Tony Iommi)

This is an awesome rocking song from Ozzy and his Black Sabbath bandmate, guitarist Tony Iommi. If you like Black Sabbath, I think you’ll like this one a lot.

7. Tear It Down — Skid Row

This is from the band’s upcoming album, The Gang’s All Here, and features their new lead singer Erik Grönwall. I think he sounds fantastic on this song.

8. Our New York Time — Chicago

I haven’t listened to much of Chicago’s music from the last couple of decades, but I like this new song a lot. It contains some great vocals and music. I especially like the horns in it.

9. Floating In Heaven — Graham Gouldman and Brian May

This features Graham Gouldman of 10cc and Brian May of Queen. The song was inspired by the recent release of several wonderful photos from the James Webb Space Telescope. Gouldman and May both sound wonderful in it.

10. Nick of Time — Lake Street Drive

This is a great remake of Bonnie Raitt’s classic song from 1989. I never heard of Lake Street Drive until I heard this, but I like this a lot and now I want to listen to more by them.

11. Caroline, No — Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp

This fantastic instrumental cover of The Beach Boys’ “Caroline, No” is from Jeff Beck’s and Johnny Depp’s recent album, 18.

12. Two Doors Down — Positive Vibrations and Dolly Parton

“Two Doors Down” is from a new album called Country Goes Reggae, which features reggae-styled, reimagined versions of several country songs. This one featuring Dolly Parton is a lot of fun. It’s very catchy and a bit of an earworm (in a good way.)

13. World Go Round — Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr recently turned 82 years old — but you wouldn’t know that from listening to this fun new song from him. He sounds pretty much like he always has here!

“World Go Round” was co-written by Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams of Toto and I like it a lot.

14. Inevitable — Maddie Zahm

I discovered this great song while looking through the New Releases section of Spotify — and I’m very, very glad I did. I love the lyrics and vocals in it.

15. Charlie — Tones And I

I enjoyed Tones and I’s debut album, Welcome to the Madhouse, quite a bit. This song, which I liked as soon as I heard it, is from her upcoming second album.

16. Make Me Say It Again, Girl — Ronald Isley, Beyonce, and The Isley Brothers

There are a lot of legends on this great, smooth-sounding song. I love the vocals on it. Simply amazing.

17. Bad For Me — Meghan Trainor (featuring Teddy Swims)

Anyone who has ever struggled with loving a relative (or anyone else, I suppose) who is, unfortunately, bad for them, will probably be able to relate to the lyrics in this one.

18. Happiness — The 1975

The 1975 is a band I’ve been aware of for many years, but I never really listened to their music until this summer. I like “Happiness” quite a bit. It has fantastic music in it.

19. Dogs (2018 Remix) — Pink Floyd

“Dogs” is from Pink Floyd’s legendary Animals album, which was originally released in 1977. The album was newly remastered in 2018, but for multiple complicated reasons, the remixed album’s release was delayed for years. It will finally come out in September 2022. Luckily, for Pink Floyd fans like myself, the remixed version of “Dogs” was released first.

It sounds fantastic! I suggest listening to it while wearing earbuds or headphones.

If you’d like to hear more than the short Spotify clip from above, here’s the complete 17:05 version of the song, from Pink Floyd’s official YouTube Channel.

20. Cotton Candy Land — Stevie Nicks and Chris Isaak

This song is from the soundtrack for the recently released Elvis movie. Even though I’ve always liked Elvis, I never knew his original version of “Cotton Candy Land.” I love this remake of it by Stevie Nick and Chris Isaak, though. I think they both sound wonderful on it.

Here’s my complete playlist of the above 20 songs on Spotify:

So, how about you? What do you think of these songs? Also, if there is other new music you’ve been enjoying that I didn’t mention here, please let me know about it in the comments section.
