The Symbolism Of Scorpio And The 8th House

Let’s dive deeper. Shall we?

Scorpio is, no doubt, my all-time favorite sign.

It might sound crazy, since who in their right mind would pick this sign? But then I have a really packed 8th house, so I might be biased.

If you’re into astrology, you have probably heard of how Scorpio is the sign of sex, power, inheritance and darkness. There is so much content about all these that all we need to do is just type and search on the internet.

I’ve been into astrology for many years, and yet it wasn’t until I had a few astrology classes some years ago, that I got deeper insights into this symbolism system.

Deep dive into relationships

In the first half of the chart, the houses focus more on the evolution of self. We become aware of who we are in the physical plane and where our identity and contribution can reside.

Then starting with the 7th house, our awareness of others begins. We start to form relationships with others, and pay attention to how we interact with them as equals.

But it is in the 8th house that we go beyond the surface level of relationships. It is with Scorpio that we begin to realize what it means to become more intimate with others. To truly know them, including their darkness, and to embrace it all either consciously or unconsciously.

The deeper a relationship is, the more it becomes a mirror of ourselves, reflecting back to us what we might not fully see.

When we bond deeply, each of our subconscious patterns starts to surface and interact with each other. We often attract and feel pulled toward certain people who are actually our wound counterparts, and as the relationship deepens, subconscious dynamics play out and ask to be healed.

What is it that you yearn for the most when it comes to connections?

Scorpio here demands us to become vulnerable and surrender to what real intimacy is. To do it, even if we have to face our most intimate fears, so we can finally heal and transform.

How much of the other person can you truly see? How much of yourself can you truly see?

We can only meet another person, as deeply as we meet ourselves.

The realms of the subconscious

It is not by accident that the deepest transformations we go through often come from our most significant relationships.

The 8th house shows the intimate relation between our connection to others and our subconscious inner world. Relationships mirror back what we still need to heal. And at the same time, since it pulls us towards them, it actually demands us to work through what needs to be healed instead of putting them aside.

On the other hand, we form relationships with everything, including ourselves. How is your relationship with yourself? How do you perceive life? What kind of relationship do you have with the Universe?

Everything mirrors back to us our subconscious patterns.

Can you love yourself, even when your darkness surfaces? Can you fully embrace all of you, including the worse parts you might not even realize exist?

Do you drink tea with your shadows, or do they haunt you as you play hide and seek?

With Scorpio, we become more and more aware of the intimate relationship we have with ourselves. It is through embracing and reintegrating our darkness, with love and acceptance, that we can see through it and finally reach the light of who we are, in Sagittarius.

Power dynamics

What does power mean?

We only have power when there are other people we have power over.

Power can come from status, authority, but the real power can be more subtle.

Growing up partially in the Chinese culture, I’ve learned a few things about power from stories of ancient China. Often the most powerful man or woman is not the one on the top. The emperor might have the title, but it was often the most influential person who had the most power.

It isn’t by accident that the symbolism of power is attributed to Scorpio. When we know someone intimately, we can have so much power over them.

If you know their deepest secrets and yearnings, and what drives them wild, what would you do about it?

We often have the choice to either protect or destroy someone who we form intimate relationships with. With great power comes great responsibility. And the same can happen when we let someone into our vulnerable hearts and soul.

On the other hand, the deeper we know ourselves, the more we master our own life and navigate more powerfully amongst others.

How much can you seduce and influence someone, and how much can someone else seduce and influence you?

Ultimately, what we choose to do with this power shows us what we really desire. Who we truly are.

Inheritance and legacy

We often hear of how the 8th house is related to other people’s resources and inheritance. While inheritance is often associated with material things, we often inherit more than that.

As we spend time with someone, we are shaped by these interactions and its memories. We inherit values from our loved ones, and we carry them on as parts of who we are. And that is the real legacy.
