The Reason I get Commended for my Business Innovations and Work in Mental Health and Always Will

It is how I approach situations

I always approach the situation as if I am approaching my 24-year old self. What do I mean by that?

Let’s go back in time, a time when I myself needed help, but that help never came.

The simplest way for me to describe this is, my brain was goop.

I would forget things as soon as they happened. I would forget words. My brain still was trying to recover all the lost memory.

Look at me now. An innovation and developmental hotshot. Because of my experience.

I always approach the situation as if I am approaching someone who knows nothing. It’s that easy. Or, you can’t help my 24-year old self and anyone like me.

This reminds me of a Bible verse,

“The second [commandment] is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.” Matthew 22:39 & 40

The behavior rooted behind my commendations are just that. My actions are exactly what that verse is detailing.

For example, if your company cannot accommodate my 24-year old self, then you do not support veterans — because you are excluding some. We never leave a fallen soldier behind. You might be pro-veteran, but there’s no literal support going on. I don’t care if your company has to change a little. I worked with a Food Lion who did not hesitate to CREATE a position for one of my clients with IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities). That Food Lion branch is a hotshot branch! Showing everybody up.

So, I’m not one that your BS is going to slip by. Your company will never be able to slip by me. If you cannot accommodate, just say it. Just say, “this company is not in a position to accommodate people.” I respect your honesty. My nonprofit is not in a position to accommodate anyone, either.

I don’t respect your attempt to look like a 5-star company. A 5-star company in the eyes of a former Military Policeman, mental health worker, nonprofit founder, and life/psychological coach is one that would hire a job coach to work with someone with IDD without being prompted. The principles behind that are ownership and innovation. The keys to everything business. If nothing can stop a company from doing something good, that company is in a very good position! They are pioneers, not waiting for someone else.

I’m just talking about hiring 2 people when the company was hiring 1, not being Oprah, and giving away cars to everyone. Even in that situation, some people in the audience did not need a car, but one of the crew members might have. So, I give that intuitiveness a 4.5 out of 5.

I don’t just get commended for my work, for years I have been adding to the companies I work for and my coworkers start using my strategies and documentation.
