My answers for 15 questions that will open your mind:

1. What’s something that nobody could ever steal from you?

My soul, spirit, and infallible courage that hopes for a kinder world.

2. Who would you like to forgive right now?

Myself. And I continually work to forgive my mother, which I wrote about here and here.

Forgiveness is a topic that lights up my soul and makes me a better person. I’d like to write a book about it one day.

3. What is happiness?

Happiness is a hug from my son and knowing that I’ve made a positive difference in the world.

It’s also that moment when I bring home a new rescue animal and watch them flourish in safety and love.

4. What impact do you want to leave on the people you love?

I want to leave a legacy of kindness and compassion, like my late father.

5. What is life too short to tolerate?

Hatred, bigotry, and any other behavior that seeks to harm other beings, either emotionally or physically.

6. What’s something that used to scare you, but doesn’t anymore?

Having children. I thought that I would be a poor mother due to my personal experiences, but I’ve realized that we each have a choice in how we behave and whether we spread kindness or cruelty.

7. What do you want to remember forever?

The short time that I was able to carry my baby on my back. I have chronic neck and back issues and am still not sure how I was able to do it. A feat of love, I suppose.

8. What do you always look forward to?

The weekend with my family and walking with my rescue animals through fields and meadows with no worries. Also the first cup of coffee each morning.

9. What do you appreciate the most about your life?

So much. I appreciate having water each day. I appreciate being able to drive and do light physical activities. I appreciate the times when I am free of pain, and I appreciate having a nice warm bed, with work that I can do from home.

10. What recently reminded you of how time flies?

My son turns 5 tomorrow, and I have a feeling that the next 10 years will pass even faster than the previous 5. It is a joy and honor to be his mother.

11. What’s something that everyone should be able to say before they die?

They should be able to speak their truth and tell their loved ones how much they mean to them.

12. In one sentence, who are you?

I am a courageous, loving soul.

13. What’s the number one life change that you need to make in the next six months?

I need to work on my long-term writing goals, and fence in the yard for the next rescue.

14. What would you do differently if you knew no one would judge you?

I would spend more time in sweatpants and athletic clothes, and pursue my passions (writing and rescuing) with less worry and more optimism.

15. In one word, what do you live for?

Love.
