The Nothing Phone (2) was just Announced to be Released Late This Year
The next Nothing Phone seems to be coming sooner than expected.
What is the Nothing Phone?
The Nothing Phone 1 is the inaugural smartphone produced by the British tech start-up, Nothing, headed by Carl Pei, formerly a co-founder of OnePlus.
The company, established by Pei, endeavors to create excitement and novelty in the homogenized realm of consumer electronics.
What was said about the Phone (2) before?
In December, Carl Pei, the creator of Nothing Phone (1), stated in a tweet:
“Phone (2) isn’t launching anytime soon.”
He added that they wouldn’t produce numerous products annually, like other tech companies, as their main focus is Phone (1). This approach was well-received by many as a departure from the typical trend of releasing new phones every year with only minor upgrades.
New news about the Phone (2)
However, Pei recently announced in an interview with Inverse that Phone (2) is launching soon and is expected to be available later this year. He explained that his previous tweet was meant to emphasize the importance of launching products steadily and supporting them with software updates.
The change of plans is primarily due to the positive response to Nothing Phone in the US market.
Initially, the phone was unavailable in the US, but after a successful beta launch, Nothing aimed to launch the new device in the US from the start. Pei believes that by not launching in the US, they are potentially missing out on a third of total sales volume.
Pei remained tight-lipped about Phone details (2), only describing it as a “premium” smartphone without branding it as a flagship to avoid undermining the original Nothing Phone.
This leads us to speculate that Nothing may be developing a device that can compete with high-end Android phones such as the Google Pixel 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Currently, the Nothing Phone is considered one of the best budget phones on the market, but its specifications cannot compare to more expensive phones.
Phone (2) is expected to be released in late 2023, and more information and rumors will likely emerge throughout the year.
