The Newsletter Boom is in Full Swing — Don’t Miss Out
Newsletters are the new podcast
A few years ago, it seemed like everyone I knew wanted to start a podcast. These days, it seems trends have shifted that desire to newsletters instead.
Starting an newsletter/email list is extremely popular for a number of reasons:
- It’s easy to monetize
- Has an extremely high conversion rate
- It’s simple and easy to scale
- It’s fun!
Think about it. You can send a weekly email to your subscribers, monetize it via affilate links and ads, and not do anything more. It’s that easy.
Here’s exactly how I monetized my newsletter:
I’ve found sending an email once a week is more intimate than writing a blog post. Creators can interact directly with their audiences and grow engagement without adding additional work.
My Substack newsletter has grown to more than 6,000 free subscribers over the last few years. At first, I thought it was because I picked a good niche; side hustles and making extra income.
While I do think the niche helped, there’s way more to it than that. Newsletters are trending right now. It gives me the same kind of energy podcasts gave me a few years back — it just seems like everyone’s doing it.
That’s how I’ve been averaging more than 100 new subscribers per week for the last year. It’s easier to do than you think if you stay consistent and take the right angle. Here’s how I did it:
Where to start your newsletter?
I like Substack. People disagree with me all the time about this, but it’s the best — in my opinion — for these reasons:
- Old emails get posted to your Substack blogs
- New subscrbers are referred via the Substack Network
- The Substack company is always innovating
I haven’t checked in with ConvertKit for years, but last time I did there was no blog post feature or network referring new subscribers. Substack wants to blow up as THE newsletter provider and is willing to help creators so they can make it.
But be my guest and try a few different newsletter providers out. Maybe you’ll like one more than Substack.
Either way, now is the time of the newsletter. It seems as though we’re on the upward trend still so there’s still time to get in the game if you want.
