The Mystical Magic Of The Last Minute in A FEW WORDS.

Have you experienced it?

Photo by Kyle Gregory Devaras on Unsplash

I bet we do. We are master practitioners of Last Minute work even as top students. Some activities are too entertaining to pass, and some are too boring to focus on.

Many people dismiss the Last Minute. This is done in an almost perfect tone from a seen-it-all-adult to the immature-kid-who-refuses-to-do-homework.

Yet, they do it all the time too. How many working adults procrastinate their digital transformation tasks in the name of business operations?

The reason for procrastination is discomfort. Knowing what we need to do is power. Being told what to do erodes our power.

Knowledge can be scary here.

To catch back progress of software testing work that is required for User Acceptance testing (which is often a critical leg for users to test run new software, to identify defects or demonstrate within expectation performance), the working professionals perform what they excel at as students.

They activate their mystical magic Last Minute, 11th Hour, all-out, last gasp sprint.

It works when it becomes urgent enough in a life-and-death scenario. We can punch way beyond our weight.

Don’t dismiss this. It’s our superpower.

How can we embrace this? For one, we can pull our deadlines ahead to prevent procrastination. Next, we can condition ourselves to believe that we do not have the time in the future as work is piling.

Does this superpower work all the time? Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

It works best when we are at the knife-edge. This means this is a chance of achieving the impossible. 40 to 55 marks is possible. 5 to 50 marks to laughable.

It doesn’t work when there is an absolute certainty. If we are certain that we won’t change the result through monumental Last Minute work, we won’t change our behavior and mindset.

We will get to bed earlier too.

The Last Minute Magic.
