The Mirror of Life.

All of our suffering [dukkha] emerges from false imagining such as this.

It is our own state of mind, whether we are experiencing fear, grief, happiness, excitement, disappointment or anger, which alters the truth of our life in the present moment and colours our emotions and responses. For example, if we are angry everything we see or hear makes us angry — it all appears to be wrong — until this mind state subsides and ceases.

We can begin to overcome the delusion if we:

  • remember that no mind state is permanent, it is temporary and will end
  • be mindful of what we are doing and thinking
  • investigate and look for the truth in every situation
  • work to free ourselves from: like, dislike, worry, despair, craving and wishing

Of course, we are not ‘our mind’ but our self-imposed clinging to a ‘self’ identity increases the burden on our life. If we work to release the burden we become free to live in peace and ease.

May this teaching lead you to happiness; may it help you grow in truth. May you be freed from the suffering of birth and death.
