The Man Who Cheated His Way To Fathering 94 Children
What a crazy story that is…
What is your goal in life?
The answers people give to this question are probably very individual.
However, according to evolutionary psychology, what we all have in common is the biological goal of procreation. According to evolutionary psychologists, the goal of passing on our genes is anchored in our DNA. This goal is, for example, the reason for our sexual drive.
However, this biological, evolutionary goal does not have to coincide with our explicit goal. Some people don’t want to have children and very few think strategically about the most efficient way to pass on their genes.
But some apparently do. There have been several cases involving fertility doctors who have inseminated women with their own sperm, which resulted in huge numbers of children.
“Our Father”
One of these doctors is Dr. Donald Cline, about whom a Netflix documentary entitled “Our Father” has now even been released.
He ran a fertility clinic in Indianapolis. As he later admitted, during his career he used his own sperm to inseminate his patients without their knowledge.
Jacoba Ballard, now 41, is the biological daughter of Cline. She uncovered his fertility fraud by taking a DNA test. So far, she has come across 93 half-siblings. However, she believes she has significantly more.
Insider describes Cline’s procedure as follows:
He told Ballard’s mother, Debbie, that he’d use donor sperm to inseminate her because her spouse was infertile. He told other patients that he’d use their husbands’ sperm, the film showed.
Instead, he would go into his office and masturbate while the women waited in the examination room. Next, he would secretly inject his sperm into the uterus of the future mother.
Ballard Does Not Want To Keep Quiet
Cline reportedly asked his biological daughter Ballard to keep the matter quiet and not cooperate with the media. But Ballard still seems to be so outraged that she did just the opposite and is still trying to expose his actions completely.
Finally, the doctor had to go to court. What came out of it describes the Insider as follows.
The half-siblings lobbied the Indiana attorney general to take action. But to their dismay, prosecutors said Cline could not be charged with sexual assault or battery. They said no crime related to the insemination of unsuspecting patients.
Cline was investigated nonetheless. A DNA test showed that he was more than 99 percent likely to be the children’s father. He denied paternity.
He was eventually charged with two counts of obstruction of justice for lying to the AG’s office. He pleaded guilty at first before admitting his guilt in court in December 2017.
Cline was fined $500, and his one-year prison sentence was suspended because of his age and people who defended his character before the judge.
