Summary

The web content describes an interactive, collaborative "choose your own" drabble story titled "Seek and Avenge," where readers encounter a man and child in a clearing who disappear in a puff of black smoke after grotesque contortions.

Abstract

The website presents the second story arc of a serialized "choose your own" adventure tale, specifically the "Seek and Avenge" chapter, which is part of a larger narrative. This chapter, titled "The Man and 'Child'," involves the reader stumbling upon a man and a girl in a forest clearing, both in a dire state. The man is pale and gaunt, dressed in ragged clothing, while the girl has a serious leg injury and an arrow protruding from it. The scene takes a dark turn as both characters begin to laugh maniacally and twist into unnatural positions before disappearing in a cloud of black smoke. The story invites readers to contribute to the ongoing narrative by writing their own 100-word drabbles or leaving suggestions in the comments, acknowledging previous contributors JF Danskin, Jonathon Sawyer, and John Fanidis.

Opinions

  • The story is designed to be interactive, encouraging reader participation in shaping the narrative.
  • The content suggests a dark and eerie tone, indicated by the unsettling transformation and disappearance of the characters.
  • The collaborative nature of the story is emphasized, with gratitude expressed to previous contributors and an open invitation for others to add to the story.
  • The format of the story, a drabble edition, requires each main part to be exactly 100 words, challenging contributors to be concise yet impactful in their storytelling.
  • The inclusion of a visual element, a photograph credited to Bing Image Creator, adds to the immersive experience of the story.

This is a continuation of The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition,” initially created by JF Danskin. Head back to the previous chapter or find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

Twigs and leaves crunch underfoot as you step into the clearing.

The man and child snap their heads up. The man’s pale skin clashes with his dark tattered clothes that hang off his thin frame. And the child, a girl, is emaciated, with an arrow protruding from her badly damaged leg.

Suddenly, they both grin and begin to convulse. Their bodies contort unnaturally — arms and legs twisting into impossible angles. The sound of their distorted laughter and cracking bones fills the air.

You hold back a wave of nausea.

Then, in a puff of black smoke, they vanish.

Thank you for JF Danskin, and Jonathon Sawyer, and John Fanidis for contributing to this content leading up to this chapter.

This is a collaborative story. Please feel free to join in and add a chapter, furthering the story in any way you like. Each main part of the story (not including choices and blurb) should be a 100-word drabble. Or drop suggestions in the comments!
