The Long and Short of Middle-Pause
Opening new doors and windows
Hot news flash: Middle-Pause now welcomes short-form submissions as well as regular-length posts.
Short-form stories are fun and quick to write. they teach us to be succinct and to the point. 150 words max. Including any titles, subtitles, photo captions, and sign-offs at the bottom.
Short and pithy packs a lot of punch. If you’re too busy or a little shy about writing longer posts, give short-form a try. Perhaps in response to one of our many perennial pump-priming prompts. You’ll be amazed at how impactful you can be with a word limit. The form teaches precision and concision.
Marilyn asks great questions in her weekly prompts. And Debbie answers her question about questions with a question of her own. Which is what that prompt was all about.
Speaking of questions: When is menopause not like menopause?
Answer: When it’s a polar bear! See Laura Culberg’s post below for further elaboration of what’s meant by our polar bear years. Nothing grizzly about it!
Up until recently, Middle-Pause has stayed away from political issues. But when we read Katie Michaelson’s personal account of living through the before and after of Roe vs Wade, our hearts were deeply moved. We couldn't not share her story with all of you.
Now we’re in the process of crafting a policy which will be added to our submissions guidelines.
We’re open to similar stories where the writer shares deep personal life experience(s) connected to the issue(s), the way Aikya Param connects the lives of women in her family to the history of feminism in her post.
Once we finalize our policy, we will publish it in the next newsletter and possibly even in a short-form post. So, stay tuned!
