South Korea Wants Prompt Engineers
South Korea’s Ministry of Science announced to develop of prompt engineering

What’s A Prompt Engineer?
Prompt engineers are responsible for creating, refining, and testing prompts that enable AI systems to provide more accurate and relevant output. This new profession of “AI whisperers” is increasingly in demand across industries, even if it is not always declared as a distinct job description.
If you are looking for resources to help you hone your prompt engineering skills yourself, have a look at this article and this one.
South Korea’s plan to foster prompt engineering
The country’s Ministry of Science is considering establishing a prompt engineering course to pass on methodologies for interacting with generative AI. A government spokesperson summarized the endeavor a week ago as follows:
“We plan to develop a curriculum […] and decide whether the program will be delivered at universities, how long it will take, and whether we will partner with the private sector.”
The private sector is also taking action. One example is Wrtn Technologies, an AI startup from South Korea, which has announced that it will hire prompt engineers immediately and offer competitive salaries. Interestingly, the company places more emphasis on applicants’ language and logic skills than their programming experience.
The Rise of the AI Whisperers
This shift in focus could signal an often anticipated change in the AI industry and job market, with a growing emphasis on human-AI communication skills.
By emphasizing communication skills between humans and machines, the industry could see a shift from purely technical expertise to a more balanced approach that combines technical acumen with the ability to interact meaningfully with AI systems. This could lead to the emergence of new jobs and opportunities for people who are skilled in both areas.
