Summary

The author discusses the controversial "We Need To Talk About Cosby" docuseries, criticizing its perceived role in perpetuating a racist agenda against Bill Cosby by using an all-Black cast to mask the underlying white supremacist narrative.

Abstract

The article titled "The Issue with The Cosby Docuseries that Racist Media Won’t Address" on the undefined website presents a critical perspective on the upcoming Showtime docuseries about Bill Cosby. The author, Jaron Mays, argues that the series is a modern form of lynching, orchestrated by suspected white supremacists to discredit Cosby without sufficient legal evidence. Mays points out that the docuseries, despite being produced by a white-owned media outlet, features an all-Black cast, which he interprets as a tactic to deflect accusations of racism. The author praises independent content-sharing platforms for allowing diverse voices to be heard and contrasts this with the mainstream media's portrayal of Cosby. He also highlights Cosby's philanthropic efforts towards Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and questions the motives of the Black individuals participating in the docuseries, suggesting they lack the independence and influence Cosby had. The article calls attention to the lack of clear evidence against Cosby and compares his situation to that of white figures accused of similar misconduct, implying a double standard in the justice system.

Opinions

  • The author believes that the docuseries is a veiled attempt by white supremacists to tarnish Bill Cosby's reputation without legal justification, akin to historical lynchings.
  • Mays appreciates platforms like Medium, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter for providing a space for unfiltered expression and for empowering individuals to become influential voices.
  • The use of an all-Black cast in the docuseries is seen as a strategic move to counter potential racial arguments and to give a false impression of racial inclusivity.
  • The author suggests that the Black participants in the docuseries, unlike Cosby, lack personal wealth, influence, and a track record of contributing significantly to the Black community, particularly in education.
  • Mays implies that Bill Cosby has been unfairly targeted compared to white individuals, such as Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, who have also faced accusations of sexual assault but have not been subjected to the same level of public scrutiny or legal consequences.
  • The article insinuates that the mainstream media is complicit in a racist agenda by not addressing these issues and by suspending figures like Whoopi Goldberg for speaking out on sensitive topics.
  • The author encourages readers to engage with his other works on Medium, which delve into topics related to race, power dynamics, and the importance of reading and education within the Black community.

For those of you who don’t know, a new docuseries is coming out on Showtime called We Need To Talk About Cosby.

The docuseries are disturbing for a lot of reasons that racist white mainstream media isn’t going to address.

It’s moments like this that make me appreciate platforms like Medium, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and other content-sharing outlets that allow people to freely (to a certain degree) express their thoughts publicly without the need to be involved in mainstream media.

It allows people to accumulate a mass following, independently, and become a voice for the voiceless.

I take great pride in what I do and I greatly appreciate all those who continue to support my work. With that being said, let’s get right into the topic at hand.

So I saw the trailer for the docuseries, and, interestingly enough, it’s filled with Black people in it.

This brings me to my first point about this: We Need To Talk About Cosby is basically the suspected white supremacists’ effort to engage in a lynching on Bill Cosby.

If you look at the history of lynchings, lynchings occurred against that Black man where white people felt he was guilty, but they didn’t feel that the courts didn’t give it enough justice to fulfill their appetite.

A lot of times, the men who got lynched were the Black men who were accused of a crime, and the white supremacists would say “We know that negro did it! We know he did it! We just can’t prove it and put him in jail. So because we are white, we are going to take matters into our own hands.”

Now we know that white people have a history of taking matters into their own hands despite what the laws may be. They don’t trip about that because they know they’re not going to be punished for it. Do we need to revisit January 6th, 2021?

So that to me is what we are seeing from this Cosby docuseries. With this docuseries that’s being released from a white-owned media outlet like Showtime with the cast being 100% Black.

One of the negroes on that documentary is a man named Marc Lamont Hill. Marc Lamont Hill and Bill Cosby are both from Philadelphia. They both were at Temple University. Marc Lamont Hill allegedly has beef with Bill Cosby because Cosby wanted to get Marc out of Temple. Of course, Marc denied the reasoning.

Now we have to ask this question: why is the cast all Black?

Well, they did this to neutralize the obvious racial argument that can be made in a situation like this.

These are not independent Black people; these are not people with their own wealth; these are not people with their own platforms.

Bill Cosby was a man who had his own wealth. He did use NBC’s platform, but he did build his own wealth.

Bill Cosby gave millions to HBCUs — something that not one of those negroes on that docuseries won’t be able to do. He was able to single-handedly educate millions of Black people and increase the enrollment of HBCUs. This man has a track record of helping our people.

So most of the negroes that are on that documentary could never even dream of doing the things that Cosby did for Black people. They don’t own anything and they’re not powerful people.

Now I’m here to tell you that the man is perfect. I’m not here to tell you that he never did anything wrong, but there was no clear evidence to prove that this man was a sexual predator.

You need proof to send people to jail. Because if you didn’t, then guys like Bill Clinton and Joe Biden would be sharing a cell with 40 other inmates right about now because they both were accused of sexual assault.

Ladies and gentlemen, that’s white supremacy at its finest.
