FICTION | FLASH FICTION | HUNDO | DRABBLE | 100 STORY CHALLENGE
The Hardboiled Detective (Part Two)
Hardiman had a case, the kind that careers are built on…
This drabble (100-word story) is a response to Crush Hundo Edition’s word prompt. Today’s word is THEFT.
Hardiman had to get his head in the game. He had a case. A stolen art piece. This was the kind of case that careers were built on. And he didn’t need any distractions.
Betty was a distraction. She visited once a week for updates. When she cried, he felt useless. And he found himself thinking about her for days afterwards.
Hardiman had never felt useless a day in his life, until he met Betty. And that’s why he needed this job. He needed to feel effective again.
He pulled out the new case file and stared at it, lost.
This 13th drabble is written as part of the “100 Story Challenge” by @Zane Dickens.
