Summary

The web content reflects on the concept of the future through a personal poem and invites readers to consider their own future by tagging several individuals for their thoughts on the prompt.

Abstract

The website presents a contemplative poem titled "the future," which delves into the paradoxical nature of planning for a future that extends beyond one's own life while also cherishing the limited time each person has. The author, Lucy Dan, shares her increasing preoccupation with the future as she ages, acknowledging the irony that her future is simultaneously shrinking. The post also includes a blockquote tagging various individuals, encouraging them to participate in a discussion about the future, and provides instructions on how to join the conversation. Additionally, the page features links to other articles, such as "Timeless Love," "How I Overcame My Phone Anxiety," and "Why You Should Watch 'Crash Landing on You'."

Opinions

  • The author views the future as both infinite and finite, recognizing the importance of planning for future generations while also valuing one's own limited existence.
  • There is an expressed appreciation for the present moment, with an understanding that the time for conscious thinking on Earth is precious and not to be taken for granted.
  • The act of tagging specific individuals and inviting them to reflect on the future suggests a communal approach to pondering existential themes, indicating a belief in the value of shared contemplation and dialogue.
  • The inclusion of links to other writings implies a connection between the theme of the future and other aspects of life, such as love, technology, and entertainment, suggesting these topics are relevant to one's future perspective.

the future seems continuous and looming but my future is finite.

to plan for a future is to plan for the longevity of what may happen beyond the time that my footsteps leave imprints on the soil,

but also to not forget that my time on this planet my time with conscious thinking is limited and precious on its own.

Tagging Karen Lappa Haas | Vivian| Tasneem Kagalwalla | Carlos Garbiras | Carolyn Riker| Dana Sanford | Katrina Bos | Jennifer McDougall if you’re up to it and anyone else interested in today’s prompt: Future.

She was first tagged by Emily Andersson a long time ago (Aug 2, 2020 to be exact), and somehow this draft has been stuck as a draft for far too long.

How to join: include the original post of the person who tagged you for reference and tag 5–10 other people (or simply ‘tag all’) who might be interested in this prompt! (Ps, there’s no deadline!)

Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) finds herself thinking more of the future the older she gets, which is ironic because the older she gets, the less future there is, for her at least.
