Writer’s Prompt
The FOURTH Weekly MuddyUm Writer’s Prompt
Because We Are All Gambling Here

I thought I had the fourth writer’s prompt all neatly planned. But life isn’t always a neatly packaged Forrest Gump box of chocolates. Sometimes it’s a melted Hershey’s bar in your glove compartment.
So, as in previous prompts, we’re going to offer writer’s choice. Like fine dining at a Chinese take out, pick from the boxed in sections of the menu. You can choose one, or why not try your hand at all three? Plenty to go around for the whole family.
OPTION 1:
Inspired by this brilliant piece of writing by Shaunta Grimes. Yes, I mean that seriously, I’m not joking, it’s a great article.
Write a satirical/comedic piece that parodies. But first, do take a look at her article, because there’s some really good stuff there.
OPTION 2:
The season is upon us. Everything pumpkin. If you are like me, you are hiding inside until the onslaught subsides. This came across my feed, and I thought it was funny enough to be inspiration for others to follow suit. Very funny piece from Elle Rogers. Take a look. Then do an impromptu list of your own, and add some poetry. Because we need more poetry, not less.
OPTION 3:
People say they don’t gamble. I first moved to New York to become a writer. Fresh out of community college in 1979, with an editor’s badge in hand from the college newspaper, top grades and $200 in my pocket, I marched into Gannet Group headquarters in White Plains, New York with a resume. I was going to be a reporter! HA!
As Lee Serpa Azevado says in his brilliant piece, “never let go of your dreams.” You too, could end up being an editor with your own publication on MuddyUm.
Life’s a gamble. We all take risks every day. You might think you don’t. But we do.
So with all that in mind, write an article and fill in the blanks……
I Gambled on ______________ and ___________ happened.
Enjoy your weekend. And happy gambling.
