The Fourfold Sangha.
the Buddha wants us all to join together to make the Dharma strong…#WednesdayWisdom

The Buddha felt that, for the Dharma to become really strong and reach its full potential, there should be a fourfold Sangha wherein we support each other in walking the path.
The Fourfold Sangha.
The fourfold Sangha the Buddha envisioned is comprised of monks and nuns, lay men and lay women. This is exciting news! There is no reason why any one of us cannot practice and attain enlightenment since we all have buddha-nature, it is inherent within us.
A Place for Everyone.
To have the karma to generate an interest in Buddhism and a wish to practice Dharma, as well as a connection to a specific tradition are all said to be the influence of karma. In addition, one must then have the causes and conditions to encounter genuine practitioners in the sangha to study and practice with. This last point includes both monastic and lay practitioners. One must have cultivated incredible karma to actually take the vows and robes of a monastic.
Monks have their well established place as do lay people who offer material support through providing food and requisites. Nuns, who have traditionally been less well supported, continue to grow in numbers whilst the number of monks is in decline. The Alliance of Non-Himalayan Nuns was set up to provide a vehicle to help meet the needs and generate tangible support for ordained nuns particularly from outside the Himalayan region.
As lay practitioners, since we are unable to be present physically to contribute to the welfare of our global sangha brothers and sisters at this time, we can continue our practice and support through our prayers and with generosity of dana (giving).
꧂If you would like to practice sending Metta or Loving Kindness you can centre yourself, preferably sitting upright, connect with your heart by bringing hands to prayer position, close your eyes and focus your mind on a certain person or group of people with the intention that they benefit from your thoughts and prayers and recite such as this:
❀May they [or insert name if desired] be well and happy
May they be peaceful
May they be at ease
May they be free from pain
May they be free from harm
May they be free from suffering ❀
꧂If you would like to consider making a heartfelt festive donation please read on for more information and click on the links :

Donations to DGL support the work of Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery helping them to continue offering excellent opportunities for the care and education of their nuns.
May this teaching lead you to happiness; may it help you grow in truth. May you be freed from the suffering of birth and death.
