The Final Week of Summer
Week seven of the photographic documentary of my daily life
Despite the fact I missed two weeks, I still want to continue with the photographic documentary of my daily life. I’m just pretending like those two weeks didn’t exist. I’ve been working more than 10 hours a day without a day off. No inspiration left for my work on Medium.
So I just turned quiet. That’s it.
But now I’m back. After one day off. One day to recharge. One day free for the mind. After this one day, I do have the motivation to write again and I am inspired for new articles.
And this is week seven of the photography challenge started by Dennett. It’s been a week out in nature. Lots of walks, encounters with animals, and some hot days in the forest.

Day one of this week is the day my parents came to visit. The moment they heard my partner finally made it to Germany they planned their next visit to see him (again). We went for a nice walk through the forest and had a lot to talk about.
All along the fields trees are filled with delicious apples. Mom is pointing at every bird she spots and gives us the name for them. Dad is looking for other animals in the woods and points out a fox running across the grass.

The following day I’m back on my scooter on the way to the office when I pass these lovely geese again. It’s a really cold morning. I even got my gloves on. But these geese don’t feel the cold. They took a morning bath in the streamlet. Just as I come closer they all climb out of the water and walk to the fence to see me.

It’s supposedly autumn now, but the trees are still having all their leaves on. Looking across the forest you do see some different colors coming up in the treetops. But it still feels more like summer. It will take a few more days before we say goodbye to summer.

These beautiful white horses are grazing in the light of the setting sun. They didn’t even lift their head when we walked past them. Embracing the fresh green grass. Nobody is going to disturb them.

After two long weeks of working hard, I finally got a day off which we celebrated with a late afternoon meal on the fire. Nothing more relaxing than sitting on the terrace, having a cold beer in the hand, and overlooking this tiny mountain village.
Life could be worse. I do admit.

The lady where I’m renting my flat doesn’t have a lot of time to look after her garden. Lots of weeds and wildflowers do grow everywhere. Which makes bees, wasps, and other insects happy. But on my terrace, this beautiful rose is growing. Every week she has a new flower in full glamour.
This afternoon I had to capture her again. With the orange light of the setting sun shining right onto the flower. What a magical moment. I love the evening light.

And because I didn’t get enough of her I took another shot of this rose the following night. It’s actually the first time I’m taking photographs at night in Germany.
I started with astrophotography when I lived in Namibia. I taught myself a lot and just experimented with my skills. I’ve taken a few night shots as well in Thailand and in Malaysia. And now in Germany.
The milky way is obviously not as bright as on the captures from Namibia, but it’s still a nice shot. I think.
Thank you for being so patient by waiting for my next article. I do invite you to join the challenge. Take one photograph every day for one week. That’s it. Here are some examples out of the past few weeks:
