Last shots of this fall as it dies off

The fall of the fall

Just two weeks ago the forests around here still wore leaves and their colors included quite some green…

…painting lovely scenes all around…

But the very same day I took that last photo, a storm hit in…

Thick clouds covered the Alps…

© Luciano Abriata.

The wind blew making the leaves fall by the millions,

© Luciano Abriata.

and making the lake angry:

The trees on the left margin of this river were suddenly left naked, as they were more exposed to the wind than those on the right which are protected by a slope:

© Luciano Abriata.

Two weeks earlier, both margins of this river were densely covered with colorful leaves:

Gingko trees are deep yellow by now, and will be bald in a matter of days:

This deciduous ivy went all red weeks ago, and is now almost naked:

It is clear. The fall of the fall has begun.

Sometimes leaves fall and they don’t know where to go…

© Luciano Abriata.

By the shore of the lake, the waves and the wind find a final destination for the leaves. They can now decompose in peace…

…releasing the nitrogen and carbon to close their cycles with the environment, and preparing the substrate that will sustain plants next year.

Winds then blew again clearing the sky. But since then all days have been foggy -another stamp of The fall of the fall:

If you liked this story, I let you two more stories about the fall…

… as we brace for winter!
