The Desert Can Be Unbearably Hot

The worst thing isn’t the heat, it’s all the creepy crawly things. I don’t like spiders and snakes

Random Word Drabble Challenge Day 39 Word Is Cot

Stranded miles from Fort Irwin, under the merciless desert sun, Mark found himself with only a cot and a bottle of water after his car sputtered its last.

The vast emptiness stretched around him, a sea of sand and heat. With each passing day, his water dwindled as he searched for rescue.

He etched SOS into the sand, a silent plea to the heavens.

The nights were bone-chillingly cold on the cot under an indifferent sky.

On the third day, as despair gripped him, the distant hum of a helicopter grew louder. Someone had finally spotted his makeshift signal.

A drabble is exactly 100 words, no more, no less. In this case, the random word to build the story around is “cot.”

Thanks to Nancy Oglesby and Fiction Shorts for the daily challenge.

Here are three other drabbles for your enjoyment.
