The Day I Met Blue In My Dreams
Dancing Elephants Press 29 Of 52 Weekly Prompts
A blue bird visited me in my dreams,
landing comfortably between the palms of my hands.
It stayed calm as if it were aware of my harmless reputation.
The belly was soft and breathing.
Its blue feathers were as bright as blue can be.
I knew I had only a very short time before it had to go.
I hurried my whispers,
gently reminding it how adorable it was.
I let it know how grateful I was for the visit,
but I didn’t dare to kiss a feather yet.
Just when I became conscious of this new level of happiness within me,
the blue bird flew off into a shadowy hallway I didn’t recognize.
It was a dream you never want to wake up from,
but like all dreams, I did.
Now I always leave a window open before surrendering to my bed,
wishing for the same blue bird to fly right in.
Every morning I check my room, hoping for a blue feather.
In my dream diary, this is my favorite page.
When I am not dreaming, I’m searching for the dream world.
The signs are everywhere telling me that I’m getting closer.
The edge where reality ends and the dream world begins is getting near.
The signs are everywhere telling me that I’m about to reach that place.
One day you might read my last poem, but don’t be sad.
I will be flying with the blue bird in infinite happiness.
Thank you to Dr. Gabriella Korosi for the invitation to share my dreams. The poem was half finished many months ago, but only now does it have a purpose to be finished. Dreams are universal for everyone, and I hope you can join the Dancing Elephants Press 29 Of 52 Weekly Prompts. Feel free to write about your dreams.
