Summary

The Richards family has been in the coffin business for seven generations, creating elaborate coffins for select individuals who have led a life of good deeds, providing them passage to a magical place upon their death.

Abstract

The Richards family's coffin business is a unique and generations-old trade that has sustained them comfortably without excess. Their work is not for everyone; they choose clients based on a moral evaluation of their life's deeds. Those fortunate enough to be selected are ensured a final resting place that is painstakingly crafted and enchanting. This practice is part of the "100 Story Challenge" and was inspired by the word prompt "DEATH." The author, Eva MacInnes, invites readers to engage with her work and offers the opportunity to follow her writing, subscribe to her publications, and support her through a "buy me a coffee" link.

The Coffin Business

Where the magic happens…

The Richards were in the coffin business, had been going on seven generations. They made just enough money to live comfortably, no more, no less. It had always been that way.

They didn’t make coffins for just anybody, they were selective with their clientele. You had to meet a certain set of parameters to get on the list. Your good deeds in life were carefully weighed against the bad.

If you were lucky enough to make it on the list, you were placed in a painstakingly elaborate coffin. And once inside you were transported to the most magical of places.

This 49th drabble is written as part of the “100 Story Challenge” by @Zane Dickens.
